Star Trek: Renegades

Yeup. As a VFX reel, it's great, it's eye catching...now why do I give a damn about these people and their story.

I guess you will have to watch and find out ;)
Not trying to be a smartass, but isn't the point of a trailer to make me want to care about seeing the movie? I'm interested, but not in a "I've gotta see this" way. I'm not sold to that point.

I liken it to reading the back-cover of a novel, it gives you a feel for a story. I don't have a feel for the story. My interest is solely in the eye-candy VFX. And that just isn't enough to sell me.

That's true, but I guess it depends on a person's particular point of view. This trailer was enough to get tons of people interested, and for others, it might have not been interesting. After releasing 2 teasers and 2 clips that were basically raw footage, we wanted to release something with a little more pop and polish to it. If we have time to do another trailer it would, perhaps, mostly concentrate on Lexxa's journey since she is main protagonist, and be a little lighter on the VFX side.

* Bolding mine.

That would be nice. Let us get to know the character a little. No big spoilers, just a feel for her behind bad-ass female character template.

Every week on TOS they discovered awesome shut that they forgot a week later. That's not a flaw in a fan film; that's Star Trek.

That's most of television before 24.

With a rare exception being, ironically, Deep Space Nine.

Yes, I have to say, from the three trailers and two clips as a whole, I've certainly got a feel for the basic story.

TV movie trailers these days seem geared towards showcasing the 'wow' features of the advertised film, not the depth of plot or character. I think this trailer is right in line with any other sci-fi/action film trailer we see coming out of Hollywood today.

It looks like a fan film.
Not to be mean, but a touch snarky, if it wasn't for the uniforms and the ship designs the look, the tone, would pass for either a BSG fanfilm or a Asylum film.

Strip the Trek elements out, and what's left of the meat?

*yawn*

Didn't this particular brand of fan film and desire to parade it out die out a few years ago?

It feels like they took elements of nuBSG and Firefly and dumped them in the Star Trek universe.

With all these fanfilms constantly asking for money, coming to this forum is starting to feel like going to church.

Uh, okay, WTF with all the sour-grapes stuff? Are people being forced at phaser-point to come into this thread and whinge, or something?

So only positive comments are allowed? It feels like a fan film. If that criticism is too strong for them to take, then they are in the wrong business.

I'm hinting that bitching about how "coming to this forum is starting to feel like going to church" on a thread nobody's compelling you to read seems ridiculous.

It is what it is. Fan films are interesting constructs, watching people ask for money isn't.

^ Nobody's compelling you to "watch" anyone "ask for money" either. Non-profit projects still have to pay people for things regardless.

Right at the end of the trailer that was put out for public consumption was...

Donate & Help Continue the Prime Universe at:

So watching the trailer is watching someone ask for money.

Non-profit projects still have to pay people for things regardless.

That was what the Kickstarter was suppose to be for.

The word "donate" affronted your eyeballs without warning and oh, the humanity, eh?

Excuse me, I need to search for my smallest violin. It's here somewhere. I'll leave you to wrap your head around the apparently unthinkable prospect of cost overruns on shoestring budgets in the meantime.
