I was given the impression that during Spock's mind meld with Kirk in Trek 09, that the brief glimpse we saw of a couple of other persons in the flashback were also Romulans from the 24th Century. It would lend credence to the notion that Nero and his ilk wore tattoos and were bald as some kind of "class" system. Perhaps a laborer class, and the tatts could very well be indicative of a specific kind of laborer, in this case, miners. Besides, I don't recall seeing tatts on Nero's wife. Nor was she bald.

Because I can

While we were used to seeing Romulans with the V-shaped forehead ridges in the spinoffs. There obviously exists a class/variation that doesn't have the ridges, as Spock was able to walk around Romulus without anyone batting an eye in "Unification".

I, for one, can't stand how all Romulans and Vulcans from TNG onward have the exact same bad haircut/wig! :klingon:
It did get repetitive. For the Romulans, I could rationalize it as we're only seeing their military so maybe it was a mandated hairstyle. But TNG's Unification kinda screwed that by showing Romulan civilians with the same hair.

Yeah, and the other one is stylin' like Tuvok.

I enjoy them and view them as no different from any other action based episode of Trek. Trek has never been all philosophy and messaging as some try to pretend. There were comedy episodes, message episodes, and action episodes. We did have Picard running around the Enterprise 'ala John McClain for gods sake.

Also, it could be said that some Vulcans have ridges. Tallera/T'paal had them, though it is not clear if they were natural, or added surgically for her alias as a Romulan.

Then you had Mintakans, who were proto-Vulcans, which could imply Vulcans could have had ridges.
