I notice a distinct lack of mentioning of Jeremy Brett? (I know very few Homeses, so, no support here, just an amazement that a common name I've heard hasn't been mentioned,)

Additionally, didn't Tom Baker, also have a turn as Holmes? I'd be interested in seeing that portrayal

Jeremy Brett is arguably one of the best depiction of Holmes, at all, which is saying something given the quality of the others who played the role.

Was never a big Holmes fan but I do specifically remember Brett's performance as being precisely how I would envision the character's portrayal. It actually got me watching the whole series all those years ago. Was so sad to learn of his passing when it happened.

I'm more interested in the modern interpretations like the character like in House and Elementary. For some reason, though, I can't really get into Cumberbatch's version.

TOS Enterprise for sure.

If the nacelles on the JJ version weren't so out of proportion by comparison to the rest of the ship (they could be the exact same design, just scaled down in size), the photon torpedo bays scaled up in size, and if at the neck were moved forward slightly (IE closer to proportions of the TMP refit), the JJprise would look better to me.
You know, I think the placement of the neck pylon relative to the nacelle pylons is something they finally got right, after all these years.

Since a large part of the mass of the ship is contained within the saucer section, it just seems to me to be more structurally sound to have the nacelle pylons and neck pylon more directly integrated with each other (with the engineering section mounted below and forward of that junction) rather than having saucer and nacelles hanging off opposite ends of a secondary hull subject to greater torsion as a consequence.

IMO, this is one instance where not looking just like the 1960s TV Enterprise or the 1979 refit is actually a plus.

Totally agree the nacelles on Abrams enterprise are way to big. Maybe guy who designed the ship for the movie was trying to compensate for something. :guffaw:
Pubert, if you genuinely would like people to have the impression that you're not trolling, as you have on more than one occasion insisted you are not, perhaps you really ought to give a little more consideration to posts like this—before you make them—to check whether you might not, after all, be intending to wind people up.

Just saying.

This was actually a attempt to just be funny. Everyone's been talking about the bigger nacelles that the joke just seemed to be set up. I had others but wont use them unless you guys want me to. They are pretty funny in a cheesy way. The intention was only for humor alone. I actually like some aspects of the exterior design of the ship especially the saucer section. The design of the new saucer would obviously have more levels and hold more crewman, guests and equipment. The things I disliked were the interiors and nacelles. The bottom cylinder is also well done.

I like some of the humor here like the sombreoprise. It made fun of TOS Enterprise but had me laughing for sure. Excellent.

Church designed the nuEnterprise. Perhaps you'd like to contact him and ask him that yourself?

Brett, Cumberbatch and Laurie are definitely my favs. They tore away the image and showed us the man.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

I only choose the two ships from early on in the crews voyages because I wanted to stick to the earliest versions the crews used and NuTrek only has one version so far. This thread should be fun.

Feel free to post shots of your favorite ship and favorite view both outside and in.

This can be a tough comparison. TOS is by far my favorite because it is original, and the first Enterprise that started it all. (I don't care what Scott Bakula's Enterprise says). However, NuTrek Enterprise is good for its generation. Most reboots tend to change things for the modern era, and that can be a good thing. What was nice is they at least kept the original sound effects, so it made you feel like you were still part of TOS.

What about what Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek the Motion Picture says?

Slight correction, but they couldn't keep the original sound effects, only because of age when compared to a gigantic movie theater-quality sound system.

However, I do appreciate that they tried to recreate those sound effects, which to me shows some love for the TOS sound effects crew.

They most notably kept the radar ping sound effect. Its not the original as you say and is changed. I consider it a homage to the original. Unfortunately with the lens flares and shaky cam I usually ignore the sounds because I desperately trying to get my bearings when looking the shaky and to bright lens flare bridge.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

I rather enjoy the bridge sounds, especially the "radar" sound. The DVD menu provides a nice variety of sounds without the action of the moment in the film.

I think it is a nice auditory callback without being too direct of a rip off.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

There is no choice between these two, TOS all the way.

Had the Movie Refit been included then I would've sided for that instead though.

I've always enjoyed the radar ping sound. I never get tired of it.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

The original was always incredibly stupid-looking. I prefer the TMP refit if I have to pick a Constitution class, but between these two, the XI-onward Enterprise, no contest.

Nice way to insult many, many people. Wouldn't suffice to just say that you don't like it?

Only thing I'm insulting is the ship. Just an opinion, mate. You can love or hate or anywhere in-between whatever ship you want.

How was the original stupid looking? The TMP refit was based on the look as well as Abrams Enterprise. They all have a similar shape. If you saw a actual life sized TOS enterprise sitting in a ship yard you would think it was dumb looking? I would definitely want to board the ship?
