Heavy stun is your best friend in that game!

The best upgrade I've gotten for Kirk's phaser is the one-shot stun blasts makes dealing with multiple enemies a bit easier.

Yeah, I think that's what I meant. . Kirk's phaser has the one shot stun and it does indeed make combat a bit easier.


There's also an achievement for doing things 100 % non-lethally.

If Elba is in negotiations, certainly he has some time on his agenda.

Production is set to start this summer after Elba finishes shooting in Harmony Korine's "The Trap," according to the Wrap.

I believe that was a joke about how Elba is often a choice for every character in Film and TV.

Taking a look at Lin's work I think he can deal with stories just as well. F&F isn't the only thing he has done, nor do I think it is the only thing he wants to be known for.

But, that's just my opinion on the matter. Likely we will have action, but with Pegg's writing, and Lin's ability to handle ensemble casts, like Trek's, I imagine there will be plenty of character moments that don't involve the action.

Indeed...kinda in the same way as Trek actors have some kind of writing credit in previous Trek films...although usually it was because they had something written specifically for whatever character they played. I think Brent Spiner has a writing credit in Nemesis, and Leonard Nimoy got writing credits for TVH and TUC, although his contributions were likely far more substantial to their overall stories.

Aye. I think that this will be more than just a vanity credit. I've never really seen Pegg's other films, but given their successes, I am hoping Pegg will be a good fit, especially if he does say he wants to stick closer to what he remembers of Trek.

Like I said, I think Nimoy's writing for IV and VI were more substantial than Spiner's was for Nemesis. Spiner's was vanity. I think Nimoy had more genuine storytelling in mind.

I think his most prolific and recent work shows that he hasn't been able to balance good story with action yet. Since this is a tentpole film I think his focus will be action. Hope not but we'll see.

I just realized, with Lin tying his previous Better Luck Tomorrow into retroactive canon of the F&F-verse, this is the best chance for Hikaru Sulu to meet Han Seoul-Oh. Or at least a descendant.

Yeah, Pegg's got the senior talent and the bigger name. Even if it's different officially, I imagine Pegg would nonetheless have more input and sayso over the script just because he's Simon Pegg.

So Lin has worked with Cho before! That's cool.

Lin has directed all the FF movies starting with 3 (Tokyo Drift). That one was a little rough but over-all good. The next two were very good actioners, but the most recent one I thought suffered from lazy writing. Possibly franchise burnout? I've no idea what the next one will be like, but if ST3 is successful maybe he will jump ship...

For some reason, people talk about ST3 as though it's going to be the last one, but I hope it's really successful and leads to more Trek movies. Maybe even an ongoing series combined with stand-alones like they are planning with SW.

Regarding Lin suggesting action sequences to Pegg/Jung for the movie, this is actually a common way for writers to work - come up with a bunch of scenes you want to see, then use their implications to develop and expand the story.

Writers can write the most brilliant, character-driven and tightly plotted script of all time and it can still turn out a mess--the director (and, in a number of cases, the studio) can and will re-write as desired, regardless of the initial quality of the script. Writers for film are rather powerless in that regard.

Conversely, a script can be all kinds of messy before a director re-shapes it into something far more palatable (if memory serves, something like this happened on Casablanca, though it could well be another film from that era).

In the end, blaming the writer for how a story turns out in a film is not usually fair (unless the writer is also the director). A screenwriter is far less responsible for the final outcome of a film than a novelist is for a novel (or a non-fiction writer is for whatever book she's writing).
