Pegg updates on script

Shouldn't a writer, especially one of a multi-million dollar project, be one who does writing for a living?

No.

Exactly, and besides, it isn't as if Simon Pegg and Doug Jung haven't written before or know how to handle the deadline. In fact, Simon Pegg was already known for some of his work before the 2009 film which were well received (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, etc.) Doug Jung has also been a writer for a couple of TV series too. So I'm pretty sure they can handle the deadlines.

It's interesting that, at least on a critical response level, Pegg & Jung's work (albeit they never worked together until now, that I know of) perhaps have a more favorable track record going into this film than Orci & Kurtzman had going into the 09 film. That's not a comparison by how I view their works, by the way, but going off of reviews, ratings, etc. Obviously Orci & Kurtzman had the box office track record advantage though.

I'm excited at the prospect and perspective Pegg & Jung could bring to the table.

I want Kirk doing something batshit insane like this off the roof of a shuttlecraft. It would please me greatly.

Well, we have this

:guffaw:

Those scenes were awesome. The final scene in STID where Spock was chasing Khan? I was leaning so far forward in my seat, I'm surprised I didn't fall out of it.
Agreed. More please! (combine with the zany gravity ticks as per the good bits of the 2013 videogame and you have something truly mind-blowing)

No.

I agree. And it's not like it will be written in a box anyway. Numerous revisions will likely be made by various writers producers and the director as the script is honed. The studio wouldn't gamble many millions of dollars on a neophyte writer.

Pegg Dispels Elba Klingon Rumor.
TrekMovie

What about the rumors Idris Elba’s going to be a Klingon?
That’s not true.
Not at all?
No, no, no.
Is he in the film?
SP: Idris... I heard there's a rumor he's been spoken to about stuff, so he may be in the film, but he won't be a Klingon. [Laughs] Or maybe he will!

I don´t know. Pegg lied about Khan being in the last movie.

Seems like everyone is guessing he'll be Daystrom.
But why Daystrom?
Just because Elba happens to be Black doesn't mean that he has to play a Black character or a character previously played by a Black actor.
I still hope they create and explore a new character.

"I don´t know. Pegg lied about Khan being in the last movie."

What is he supposed to say?

"Here's a beat by beat break down of the film. Give me your email and I'll send you the rushes".

Seriously, why do we expect them to tell us anything or worse yet, everything?

Elba won't be in this movie because he'll be too busy as Batman, Bond and Doctor Who. At least that what all the threads lead me to believe should happen.

If Elba is in negotiations, certainly he has some time on his agenda.

Production is set to start this summer after Elba finishes shooting in Harmony Korine's "The Trap," according to the Wrap.

I believe that was a joke about how Elba is often a choice for every character in Film and TV.

Did he say it ironically? I did not realise it. Ok. :)
In June we will finding out it.

Whatever all the other coy participants said without actually, you know, lying, since Pegg was singularly in the lie. Mind you, I don't hold it against him. I rather dislike the coy more than Pegg's lie. I like Pegg's lie and I like him for telling it. It yanks chains of all the spoilers out there who can't enjoy a movie unless they spoil it for everyone in some sense of power over a franchise in otherwise mundane or meaningless lives. Unfortunately, there are plenty of other people who really enjoy the whole process and feed the spoilers - it's just part of the show.

I'd still be glad to have Elba on board; my only stipulation is that he not get covered in heavy layers of makeup.

I'm still holding out for Bryan Cranston.
Interesting.

To me, that is kind of like saying Peter Jackson can't direct a big budget fantasy movie like LOTR because he is a horror director from New Zealand (that's racist! ;).
Peter Jackson can direct a big budget movie like Lord of the Rings because he's from New Zealand. But he can't direct an even bigger budget movie like The Hobbit because by then he was from Hollywood.

But isn't it's possible for you to agree that basing a movie around a bunch of action scenes is not as good as letting the story organically determine the scenes and action to be included? I think that's the message hidden in Saul's sarcasm.

Also, if Saul's message was intended as sarcasm, I apologize for missing it. The point I was picking up on (intended or not) was that Lin was pigeon-holed as strictly an action director when he has demonstrated the ability to do more than that. Hence, the Peter Jackson reference.

Also, I have a lot of confidence in Pegg to produce a script that is both in line with the last two films and in the spirit of Star Trek.
I'm afraid he heavily leans towards action as his forte. The fast and the furious films are certainly light on story and making sense.

Pegg I have confidence in but already he's up against having to write a story around big action set pieces.

The big action set pieces I don't mind and indeed expect. Bring 'em on. All I'd like Pegg to do (and anticipate he will) is inject some character-driven humour and warmth in the 'boring-bits-in-between'.

Of course the film is built around big action set pieces - it's a spring/summer blockbuster. They want anything else they can go to TV or go home.
