Convention Photos

^ There are fewer drunken brawls at a sci-fi convention. But both have giddy fans, people dressed in ridiculous outfits, long lines, and truly outrageous ticket prices. ;)

I usually go to a convention every year, if there's one in or near my town. I go to Comicpalooza in Houston in May, or ComicCon in Austin in October. This January, I went to the Supernatural Convention in Houston, and it was a blast! Expensive as hell, but I'm glad I went.

Yeah, I learned my lesson about that one. When my friend and I went to Chicago, we budgeted twice as much as we thought we would need. I think, combined, we took $1500 with us, for the hotel, food, gas, and a few souvenirs we wanted to buy, and we made it back, after 3 days, with $40.

We didn't buy anything outrageous, or anything, but it still cost us almost $1500 for those 3 days. It just blows my mind how fast the money goes, and you don't really have to buy anything expensive. It's a death by a thousand cuts.

He hosted a pie eatin' contest & viewin' of Stand By Me before signin' copies of his new book, Just a Geek. I also got a Wesley Crusher action figure signed for myself and one for OmahaStar.

With John Wesley Shipp (The Flash, The Flash) at Dallas Comic Con, Plano TX

I got an 8x10 of him as Pollux signed, and we both geeked over the first series, since the new series was still years away at the time. He asked if I would be at the convention on Sunday, and told me if I made it, I could sit at his table so we could geek some more. But, I couldn't get to the second day of the con.

This was Mr. Gross's first convention appearance, and he only had two photo options - a studio head shot & him as Burt with the elephant gun fom the first Tremors movie.

With James "Jimmy" Hampton (Teen Wolf & Teen Wolf, Too) at the same Dallas Comic Con, Plano TX

I told Jimmy how many times I had seen the first TW film, and he quizzed me about it. As a 'reward', he added a quote from the movie to the 8x10 I got signed, and told me where the quote came from, that it wasn't scripted, but improvised on the set durin' filmin'.

He complimented my tie, which was a gift from another member of this board - apologies for not rememberin' which of you gave it to me.

The guy who took this picture said he couldn't fit us both in the same frame. Mr. Prowse simply said, "Kneal down." And without thinkin' of it, I dropped to a new. I'm weaker than Luke Skywalker.

My oldest nephew with Daniel Logan Star Wars: Episode II - The Clone Wars, Dallas Comic Con, Plano TX

At the Q&A with Daniel Logan & Jake Lloyd, Thomas & I were front row, and Thomas said he had a question. I asked him what it was, and he told me. So, I told him to raise his hand and wait to be called like in school. He asked the two prequel trilogy actors what they thought of Episode III. Jake Lloyd went off on how awesome and wondeful he thought it was. And he asked Thomas, "What did you think of it?" Thomas said, "They haven't let me watch it yet." Everyone who heard him say that went "Awwww..." Thomas could have crawled into a hole to die. Daniel Logan leaned into his microphone, and said, "Don't worry about it, mate, they haven't let me see it yet, either." And for that, Daniel Logan is forever awesome.

I'm Team Edward. Joel Watson, the artist behind Hijinks Ensue & the creator behind my t-shirt, was at the same con, and was so excited, because it was the first time he'd seen one of his shirts out in "the wild."

This was a free, one day event and my nephew's first scifi con. Mr. Daniels complimented my tie, too. He said Darth Maul was his favorite Sith. I didn't think to ask why.

Local convention in town this weekend. Some pretty good names but, for me, hard to top last year when the entire cast of TNG (minus Patrick Stewart) were here. I got to meet Michael Rooker (Merle on the Walking Dead, Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy) and Scott Wilson (most noted for Herschel on The Walking Dead) and Ming-na Wen from Agents of Shield. (She was fun to meet.)

But I didn't opt to pay for the photo ops with any of them. But one person I did meet yesterday, Karen Gillan, I went back for today to get a photo-op with her. Have never seen more than a few moments of Doctor Who but I'm a fan of Karen Gillan, so it's well worth it for me to get a picture with me standing right next to her and getting to touch her. (Arm lightly around her waist and hers mine as we posed.) So here I am:

The hotel workers at the bar crawl all had to wear Trek costumes (though I'm disappointed they went with the new movie costumes.)

Shatner was at our local con last year. (Along with the cast of TNG minus Stewart.) I was standing in line for my autograph and got to see him walk in to the convention hall with his "entourage." It was quite a treat as we all turned to applaud him and he waved to us. (Obama-salute-style, as he had his coffee cup in his waving hand.) Awesome watching him greet the TNG cast members as they arrived at their adjacent booths, hugging Marina Sirtis as her arm was in a cast from an encounter she had the night before with Gates McFadden. I'm standing there smiling and wishing I could take a picture -but none were allowed at his booth- behind me I hear a familiar voice going. "Wow! It's Wiliam Shatner! That's amazing!" And it was Brent Spiner. Just a great, fun, experience.

I didn't get to take pictures with him either (sadly) it was about $350 for an autograph and like $800 for a picture and autograph, I'm a broke military girl and that was way out of my budget. But being the only one in the group in a Trek costume he smiled and half waved at me which was nice :)

Part of me says "$350 for an autograph? That's insane!", but the other part says "I wonder how much I can get for my blood...".
