Karen Gillan

Local comic-book convention in town this weekend. And one of the guests at the con this year is Karen Gillan. And though I've not watched Dr. Who, I certainly have had my eye on her.

She's Sat/Sun only, so going up to see her tomorrow. Going to dish out the dollars for both an autograph and photo-op. Don't normally go with the photo-op with celebs but for her I'll make an exception.

Also of note at the con is a young actress who I guess played a younger version of Gillan's character in some episode.

That'll be Gillan's cousin, Caitlin Blackwood, who was great as young Amelia.

And I envy you; Gillan is gorgeous, gregarious and generally wonderful.

I'm headed to the same con, and definitely going to get an autograph at least. Maybe a picture if it works out. I'm not a big Dr. Who fan, but I loved Guardians of the Galaxy.

Did get to meet her today and get an autograph. No table-side photos allowed, however, as was happening with the other celebrity guests. And the time I went to her table was too late for her photo-op in another area of the con. Hopefully I'll have a chance tomorrow. But, she was a sunny person to meet in person.

Karen is coming to Fan Expo Vancouver next month and I'm planning on going this year just because of this...planning on doing the photo-op so might post an update here since Trekker did.

In the interviews I've seen of Karen, (both on the late night talk shows and while she was still doing media stuff for Doctor Who) she seems incredibly awkward and a bit of a crazy/madhat personality. Compared to Jenna Coleman, who is always poised and composed in her appearances, Gillan seemed like she couldn't sit still. She'd stare at the interviewer with those big eyes, then suddenly blurt stuff out or answer questions weirdly, laugh...she struck me as a bit frazzled and crazy.

Not in a bad way, of course; it's kinda cute and endearing, but I always wondered if it was just an act she put on or if that's really what she's like. Like what she'd be like on a date, etc.

^On the one hand you could call it awkward, but I think it's more that she's comfortable in her own skin and just enjoys being herself. Doesn't seem to care what anyone else thinks. IMHO, obviously.

Also as an aside, you mentioned that Caitlin Blackwood was there and I saw this picture of young Caitlin that brings out the family resemblence.

It's around her waist, or more I guess resting near the small of her back. Not around enough to be seen. Her left hand is pretty much in the same place on me.
