Will Quintos NuSpock Be Remembered LIke Nimoys Spock?

Ive been thinking about this a lot since Nimoys death. They have a special magazine devoted to him and trace his career from its earliest point to its last. I don't even think Deforest got something like this for his work as McCoy when he died. It got me wondering if Quinto will get such a send off even in 40 years and be remembered for playing a version of Spock that took a hold of a generation of Sci fi fans. There are a few reasons I think he wont. Number one there is so much sci fi now that NuTrek really doesn't distinguish itself a whole lot especially since it focuses on action and less on drama and story. Also at the point we are at in the movies NuSPock is not really much like the original Spock and doesnt have that cool calculating manner Spock had in TOS that made him a hit with fans. Another reason may be that Quinto will most likely be leaving the role after the 3rd movie to move onto something else and there will be only 6 hours of NuSpock compared to nearly a hundred hours of Nimoys version. Basically I think as a icon Spock will alsways be Nimoys and anyone after will just be playing the character and not have that same hold on the character.

I think he will, as newer generations may connect more with Quinto's Spock rather than Nimoy's. It may seem unlikely, but there was a time when the idea of someone other Nimoy and Shatner playing as Spock and Kirk, respectively, would have likely got you laughed off the board.

Quinto will need to continue playing Spock for many years, and he will need to continue his connection with the ST fanbase. It will take time. I don't know if it will ever reach the ferver that Nimoy enjoyed (or perhaps, didn't enjoy), but with time, he can obtain a solid connection with the Spock character and its fans.

I think that Quinto has a solid grasp of the character and what he wants to do with him as far as story and arc. I think he has had more contact with Nimoy that we realize in terms of constructing this newer version of Spock, and is more grounded about how to portray him that he will ever be given credit for.

That said, he does have pretty large shoes to film in the sense of presenting Spock in a long term way. I do hope Quinto continues on with the character for many years. In so doing, I think he will be recognized as well for giving a different view on a classic character. I find nuSpock's arc as fascinating as Prime Spock's and am hoping Quinto is given the opportunity to explore it fully.

As above, Nimoy is remembered for a body of work stretching over the course of decades. In half a century Zachary Quinto (to the fans) might be "that guy" who starred in three movies and then moved on.

Is he going to have a on going connection?

One more film is probably all we're going to get so his screen time alone cannot possibly compare with Nimoy.

Yeah I agree he will probably play the character one more time.
Its possible he will return to the character if he finds that he has been typecast but so far I doubt it. Quinto is into other things and like most actors today he probably will want to be known for a variety of acting jobs and characters.

And to add to what others are stating, Quinto has periodically expressed that he doesn't want to be 'that' connected to the Spock character. I would be surprised if he continues past the third movie as Spock. I would be equally surprised if Chris Pine continues as Kirk. -Particularly so for either of them if the next movie isn't as successful as the previous two installments.

It might depend on how the next film is received though. I am definitely in a wait-and-see mode with regards to their franchise continuing on. It sounds odd, but Quinto may not have as much screen time as Spock, but he has already left an impression on me as far making Spock his own.

Time will tell, obviously. I still think there is a lot of potential for him, and the rest of the crew.

Wanting to be remembered just as much as the original doesn't seem to be Quinto's goal anyway. It's a one movie at a time approach, which is the right approach. There'll always be comparisons, but it doesn't have to be a competition, either; likewise, just because Nimoy and Spock will forever be linked shouldn't prevent others after Quinto from taking on the role.

I think Abrams and Quinto had the right attitude regarding Nimoy/Spock. If they just wanted to replace him outright (which never seemed to be the case), they wouldn't have bothered to put him in the movie in the first place, or even ask him for input. On the contrary, Nimoy's said time and again how receptive they were to his ideas for ST09's Spocks, how a good deal of it ended up in the final product. It's a happy admission that Nimoy-as-Spock is truly one of a kind and an acknowledgement of his impact on pop culture.

Quinto does a great job as Spock, but Nimoy is Spock in the same way Sean Connery is James Bond. No matter how great other actors are in the role the original will be more fondly remembered.

It's been two movies and Nimoy has just passed. Way too early to speculate or form an opinion.

Well to be fair Nimoy and his Spock were already iconic before he died. So I could rephrase that will Quintos version be as iconic in 20 or so years. We know that Nimoys version was already a icon in the mid 70s.

We also know that, by the mid-70s, the Nimoy Spock had 80 episodes worth of development in the original TV series, plus the additional 22 episodes of the animated series. That's not to mention the exposure the character got via posters and promotional items, promotional appearances, the Blish collections, audio recordings, and so forth. Even the "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" video: Nimoy appeared ostensibly as himself, but no effort was made to disguise the distinctive Spock haircut.

Compared to all of that, the Quinto Spock appears in about four hours' worth of content, plus one video game and one novelization of the 2009 movie.

Now I suppose it's within the realm of possibility that, someday, NuSpock might be remembered as well and as fondly as oldSpock—it's a stretch, but ask yourself how many people think of George Reeves as Superman, versus how many people would think first of Christopher Reeve—however, I don't think it's terribly likely.

It's likely to be a very long time before any answer to the question posed in the thread title has a chance of meaning very much. Honestly, I'm wondering why it seemed important to be asking it now.

Not likely at all, since Steve Reeves played Hercules, not Superman.

The guy I first think of as Superman is George Reeves.
