Time Burton to Direct Live Action Dumbo

JD

They announced today that Tim Burton is going to be directing a live action/CGI Dumbo movie.
Honestly I have no idea what to make of this. I think Dumbo probably would probably be one of the last animated Disney movies I would want to see get a live action remake. If it were up to me I would have gone with either The Little Mermaid, or Aladdin. Hell, I think I would have picked even Winnie the Pooh, or The Rescuers before Dumbo would have even crossed my mind.

Sad to see this. Pointless. It was nice to see him do a real movie again with Big Eyes. Was hoping he would stop doing remakes of other people's work. The only thing I have interest in him doing is the Beetlejuice sequel if it ever happens.

years ago when Disney was making unnecessary sequels to many of its classic films Dumbo dodged a bullet when its sequel was scrapped. so i guess we get this instead.

Coming off Birdman there might never be a better opportunity to make that work.

At this point I swear Burton is playing an elaborate Andy Kauffman-esque prank on all of us. He's doing crazier and crazier and dumber shit until he finds the breaking point. The point where society decides he's completely out to lunch and he no longer gets funding from studios, but people stop going to see his movies.

I am interested to see, though, what he comes up with on Dumbo's hallucinations while "drunk." (Read: Tripping acid.)

Who's Helena Carter going to play? One of the racist-stereotype crows?

God, Burton. Just stop this nonsense.

Wait until you see Johnny Depp in white makeup and giant ears.
It's definitely the elephant in the room...

:rommie: The jokes, they write themselves.

This must be one of the harder adaptations they could make and it seems rather pointless as far as adaptations go. At least with their fairy tales, it makes sense on some level, but a live-action Dumbo just seems misguided. I can't remember the last time I liked a Burton movie. I think it was Big Fish.

I'll pass too. But it may be interesting hearing a Danny Elfman take on "Pink Elephants on Parade".

PETA wants Burton to give the elephants a happier ending in the movie in a wildlife sanctuary as opposed to be in the circus.

Oh, that's a good choice...the man who screwed up Planet of the Apes and butchered Dark Shadows.

Pass.
