Leonard Nimoy Passes Away

Sad to hear of the passing of the great Leonard Nimoy, may he rest in peace--he will be missed. He was the prime mover for making Star Trek's vision of the future. His thoughtful portrayal made all science fiction a more believable, relevant force for the betterment of mankind. Star Trek IV endeared him to America--he was welcomed into our living rooms and is an icon of American idealism--uniting science and spiritual and the quest for discovery with the experience of being human.

Belated RIP for Leonard Nimoy.

If the Abramsverse continues, Zack Quinto has big shoes to fill. Nimoy bridged the gap between Trek, I think. And, this includes the television shows and movies as well as the online game. Moreover, we saw Spock go through somewhat of an arc throughout the years.

I think Zack Quinto is the most believable replacement in the whole nu-trek team.

Well, as far as has been reported on the Net, I can see that Zach was the only actor that really committed himself to the role by interacting with Mr. Nimoy a great deal wherein a real life friendship ensued. So, I have great hopes for him in any continued ST films to carry on the spirit of ST. I liked the actor who portrayed SCottie next and thought he 'almost' had it...enough to continue to the next series, anyway. Bones was portrayed fairly well so the Big Four are 3/4 complete. Kirk character was way over the top and looked like a joke,in my estimation...lots of character development needed there for sure.

To be fair Shatner liked to play Kirk a little bit over the top too at times.

This is how Croatian Trekkies honored him:

May this thread be bumped and bumped until the anniversary. It's so great to read what everyone has said. I hope his kids and his wife truly know how much Leonard was adored and is now missed by millions of people on Earth. Most of us didn't get to the man, only his actions. And they certainly telegraphed an outstanding compassionate human being. Zachary Quinto was sure lucky to have gotten this chance to become his friend, even for a little while.

I love this commercial:

What a great guy. Will miss him for a long time to come. :(

This is certainly a sad time. He will be missed, and his work and legacy will be long remembered.

Leonard Nimoy would be 84 years old today. I would like to use his birthday to say that for me, at least, thanks to the Fal-tor-pan miracle of Star Trek New Voyages and the artistry of actor Brandon Stacy,

Spock Lives!

I seldom have time for the internet anymore (that can actually be a bit of a blessing), but I thought I would share a couple of experiences here and express a fear.

In the early morning hours before Leonard Nimoy passed away, two things happened here. My wife and I have a bunch of those glow-in-the-dark plastic stars on the wall in our bedroom, small ones and large ones. One of the larger ones fell off the wall. A short time later I was in that state between fully awake and fully asleep and heard a voice say "Leonard needs to come to bed." At that moment, I had no idea what to make of that and did not make a connection to Leonard Nimoy.

I had not heard that Leonard Nimoy was in the hospital, had not been thinking about him, etc. Later in the day when I heard the news about his death, I was extremely shocked.

Coincidences? Maybe, but it makes you wonder.

In a way, I was hoping that Leonard had chosen cremation over burial. Because in this era of deranged fans and all kinds of nutjobs, would it be so far-fetched for some idiot to get it in his head to steal the body, with the idea that he could come up with some insane Genesis regeneration effect?

I think that the cemetery should have some added security, all things considered.

May Leonard be allowed to Rest In Peace....

.... wow. I have had a few things like that happen in my life, mostly to do with family. Never anything of this magnitude.

Leonard (Jewish name Yehuda Lev) was Reform Jewish, but he might have arranged for his burial to follow traditional rules which means he was not embalmed. I can believe Leonard would do this. So do not worry.

Nimoy has inspired me to stay away from cigarettes. Two years after the quit, I still find I sometimes want a cigarette. But the thing is, the lung damage they cause can come back to bite you even if you do quit, and I smoked long enough for this to be a real possibility. I also suspect Nimoy lived much longer than he would have otherwise because of his decision to stop in 1983, before the various nicotine props we have today were available.

Sorry but not in the same league, let alone ballpark.

Still acheing for him terriably. I got into Star trek as a way to honor my grandpa's memory. He died in 1999 of heart trouble and he was my best friend. I wish we could find him on a Geneis planet! I miss him and grandpa so much!

^ His passing reminds me of when my grandpa died, because they were born the same year.

The town of Vulcan, AB held a memorial tribute for him yesterday. It was only about 100 people but it was very nice. I'm glad I went. People shared stories and the impact he had on them. A few were even dressed in uniforms.

We got a cat, wife named him Nimoy.

He's an ornery little shit, won't sit still for a second. He definitely has the pointed ears.

My wife was a huge fan of Leonard Nimoy and this was her tribute to him.
