Wasn't it a reuse of a shot from Star Trek VI?
That's not quite as egregious as the reuse of the destruction of Chang's Bird-of-Prey late in the film for the destruction of Lursa and B'Etor's ship. The Excelsior going to warp wasn't any special, but the destruction of Chang's Bird-of-Prey was pretty stylish and memorable.
The shot of the Excelsior is forgivable. It's like one second, and the ship is flying at warp speed so fast you need freeze frame to tell it's not the Enterprise-B.
The shot of the BoP exploding, on the other hand, is just silly. I remember reading somewhere that the original idea was that Lursa and Be'tor would have had a much larger and more powerful ship, more of a match for the Enterprise-D. But because they would save VFX money if they reused the BoP explosion scene from TUC, they changed the ship to a BoP. I don't know if this is true, but if it is, that's pretty pathetic.
