TWOK. In fact I just watched it tonight in memory of Mr Nimoy.
On Saturday night, a TV channel here showed TMP as a tribute, a nice gesture but an odd choice given Spock's notable coldness for most of that film. TWOK would have been the ideal choice, especially with that ending (*sniff*). Actually, the ideal would have been showing II, III and IV in a row....

Now that you mention it ... the finestra in the monk's outfit are cut in such a way that they could remind someone of porkchops, or other cuts of meat, with just the plain red showing.
It reminds me of the surreal space fantasy of Moebius and Metal Hurlant. Fine in its place, but not Trek as far as I'm concerned.

Having said that I'm very fond of TSFS as well. For me in many ways it's TWOK Part II. The Stealing the Enterprise segment is wonderful. And ILM's model work is gorgeous.

Agree completely!

I have never subscribed to the notion of the "Odd/Even Theory" regarding these films.

TSFS is great for all the reasons you mention, plus the sacrifice and loyalty to Spock before the crews' careers is a culmination of all their TV & movie adventures- and makes this crew a true family, bigger than just Starfleet officers who served together. (The only element I would have changed is Robin Curtis should have played an all new Vulcan).

TSFS is a fine movie!

"Surreal Space Fantasy" Art is a good description of the style. Sorry it doesn't appeal to you in STAR TREK, I'd like to see more of it, myself. And the Métal Hurlant Chronicles isn't a bad show, indeed ...

I'm only familiar with Metal Hurlant from watching documentaries about Alien, Blade Runner and Alejandro Jodorowsky... ;)

I have to say TSFS has all of the elements I loved most about TOS fully realized on the big screen. Not as cheap-looking as Khan, and with great space scenes of the Enterprise (unlike TVH). Easily rewatchable, even with its shortcomings
