should Nimoy be in XIII?

Before Orci left there was talk of both Shatner & Nimoy being in XIII. i think Shatner will still be in it despite Orci departing, but what about Nimoy? Should they still have him via previous footage or CG (like Brando in Superman Returns) or should STID be his final on screen appearance as Spock? (with Spock Prime just getting referenced as having died or even still alive)

Nimoys death is obviously going to cast a big shadow over the movie whatever happens abit like Reeve/Brando Superman Returns (still hard to believe Nimoy is gone. Its like 1982 all over again but this time for real )

No. They need to stop relying on TOS stories and cast members as a crutch and forge their own identity. Now obviously as a preboot or rehomagining () or whatever, it's based on the TOS characters and general concepts, but I mean they don't have to lift Khan directly or have SpockPrime appear to give it more of a concrete connection to TOS/the prime universe. It's the third film in. It's time to stand on their own two feet. Archer needs to give them an awkward gazelle speech.

Now, having said that, I would not object to a memorial clip of Nimoy appearing in the credits. I just don't think they should shoehorn his character into the story itself using deleted footage or CGI just for the sake of having SpockPrime appear again.

For General Audiences, it might seem kind of creepy, implying that "Prime" Spock will be furthering his adventures via CGI and would very likely go against the movie. It would probably become a joke. If, on the other hand, Nimoy had died after having shot the majority of the next STAR TREK movie already, then cutting him out would've been a mistake and people would've resented that.

I say no because I don't trust it will be handled properly. I would prefer a TOS tribute at the end of the movie that focuses primarily on the three deceased cast members.

Only if he's already filmed scenes for it. I'm not a fan of using effects trickery or body doubles to put living or dead actors in films and television commercials they didn't actually work on.

How would it be "shoehorn"ing (to use your term) if Spock's character was an important and intelligent part of the story?

A body double with Nimoy's face CGI'ed in would be great and a fitting tribute to someone who remains very much at the heart of Star Trek.

Id rather just see a tribute to Nimoy in the credits than any CGI stuff making him seem like he is there. In terms of Shatner appearing, i'm fine with a small role as long as it fits with the story well. Otherwise I think same thing; post-credits is a great chance for them to do pretty much anything they want to honor not just these two, but the whole Original Series cast.

While I enjoyed seeing Spock Prime in the first two movies, I do agree that it is time for the movie series to move forward on its own. The training wheels need to come off, as it were. I won't overly object if there is some reasonable use of Spock Prime in the next film, but I would have to admit, I'd start to feel a little bit like: ok, now they've really gone to the well one too many times. I guess the best way I can put it is, I would feel conflicted.

A tribute or dedication to Leonard Nimoy in the next film would certainly be more than enough for me.

This I can agree with....just like im ST VI, "For Gene".

Short and sweet. No need to emotionally compromise the audience that loved Nimoy with any lengthy, if beautiful words before the start of the film. Save a lengthy tribute for the blu-ray release. For the theatrical release, just "For Leonard". Or even: "For Our Friend: Leonard Nimoy".

I'm going to say no, there is a difference using CGI in the case of where an actor dies during filming and where it's to get an actor into a film who is no longer with us. Surely it's time for the films to stand on theri own. I felt the Nimoy's apperance in STID was unwarranted. Just go with a simple card like the did with TVH and TUC.
