Terry Farrell and DS9 Season 7

Alexander Siddig was excellent on DS9 in terms of his acting skill. He even played Bashir three different ways as the writers changed his personality twice (not including the Mirror Universe version)! I would like to see how well the rest of the cast could play four versions of the same character.

I just never cared for Siddig's portrayal at all. The episodes that feature him predominantly are the ones I'm most likely to skip over (the story where he ages at an accelerated rate really sets my teeth on edge). Whatever acting skills the guy possess (which I'm sure he has in some measure because he continues to get at least limited work) just didn't gel with me.

I did like Bashir's evolving friendship with O'Brien but otherwise wasn't that interested in his character.

Like I said earlier, I also was sometimes distracted by acting from Visitor and Brooks. But I did actually enjoy their characters for the most part so maybe I remember them in a fonder light.

Siddig has had the most high profile roles of all the DS9 regular cast at this point though, I think.

What do you mean by "high profile"?

He's in the next season of Game of Thrones, that's pretty high profile. Before that he was in BBC's "Atlantis" which I'd say is considerably less so.

Siddig is in a lot of things. Syriana, Kingdom of Heaven, 24, etc, etc...
Personally speaking, I really liked him in Cairo Time, where he plays the romantic lead opposite Patricia Clarkson.

IMHO, Siddig has grown and matured so much as an actor after DS9. I am looking forward to seeing him as Doran Martell on Game of Thrones.

He was also on Primeval for a season or two.

Whether we consider Siddig to be an important actor or not, he, along with Meaney and Picardo, are among the most active Trek alums in front of the camera. At 27, Sid was the youngest adult when DS9 started, so it might not be so surprising that he is still active. Many of the key players are looking at 60 (if they are not already there).

Yes, he still has a big chunk of his career in his future.

Lets all just admit it's because she was shorter. You can't replace an actor or actress with someone shorter than the original.

Or can you?

Worf and Garak were each able to reduce her to tears within a few episodes of her starting on the show and I don't think Jadzia ever cried in the entire series. And yes being 5'4 didn't help her.

It was actually her first episode with an active role. Before that she was along for the ride with Sisko when he went to get the orb.

I don't think we can hold against her that she cried especially since Garak was a jerk (which sounds like an understatement) and worf was a freaking moron. Pretending not to know what Jadzia would have thought of the way he treated the next host of the symbiont. If there was a Nobel prize for stupidity he'd deserve it. He actually said it that imbecile! I think it's Miles that asked the question.

"What do you think Jadzia would have thought of the way you behave with Ezri?"

Worf: "huh? I don't know..." :wtf:

A packled would have had more insight.

No Jadzia just sat there like an upset 10 year old in "Dax" while everybody worked their ass of to save her. Strong character!
Also Terry Farrel might not have been able to convincingly cry on camera (quite difficult as far as I know) the closest she got was "looking sorta sad/nauseated" (like in the episode I mentioned above)

Give Ezri a break, she just was forced to basically fuse with 8 other people, without getting the extensive training Jadzia got to do the same AND against her will. She has issues...

In a related note I have just finished "Facets" and it was the first Dax episode that didn't make me cringe. Rather it was hillarious, it allwed everyone, including Chaste Masterson, but especially Nana Visitor, Armin Shimerman and Rene Aberjonois, to show off their acting chops....and then there was Farrel, standing there like a white wall for the others to bounce off on.

That's how I see it. There are moments in stories where Jadzia ought ot have cried. Instead, we get a little girl voice and a scrunched up face--Sadzia! Of course, we don't necessarily need tears to feel moved by a character's sorrow, regeret or mourning, but it's bad with Farrell. Best (or worst) example: telling Sisko about the near death of one of her (previous host's) children in Nor the Battle To The Strong.

Frankly I found myself being far more distracted by bad acting flaws from Brooks, Visitor and Siddig far more often. Sisko was fine for me when he could play the too-cool-for-school brooding thing (which he did 90% of the time) — but as soon as he had to emote, oy! I never once bought the Kira is a badass bit that was continually shoveled down our throats — no matter what, Visitor just never could convince me. And the hands-down worst acting on the show for me was Alex Siddig.

Agreed!

I accepted Terry Farrell as a weaker actress out of the gate with "Emissary". She did grow stronger as the series progressed. As a character-Ezri had more potential, and probably would have given the series more heart over 7 years.

Brooks, El Fadil, & Visitor however-

All three made some bizarre acting choices throughout the series. Moments that made me say " What the hell??" Farrell never did that.

"white wall"? You're comparing her to an old tire?

Oh yes, that was some bad acting, right there!

Lol no  I meant she is as neutral and bland as a literal wall with nothing but white paint on it, while the others in those scenes are the "main attraction". Like a white wall in a museum in order not accent the paintings.

Sound points.

I didn't come in here to rip on Ezri, and I'm sorry that was what it turned into. I agree Farrell was obviously the weakest of the actors on the show. But I did grow to like her character through the course of the series and as a teenager at the time, I couldn't get into a new character who was there for one season.

It's ironic that in the episode named "Dax" she hardly does any acting at all. She just sits there like a stump, with a vacant stare.

Nah you're good. Man I knew I should have used the ";)" emoticon somewhere in my answer to your post. I wasn't angered by your opinion or anything, I just presented my counter-opinion in a manner that was meant to come over as playful i.e. "Give Ezri a break/leave Britney alone!" and I obviously failed at it.
If you wanted to rip on Ezri, you could naturally do so to your hearts content as far as I am concerned, of you want to stand up for Jadzia you can do that too, rip on any aspect of Star Trek you like, I won't judge. That would be hyprocitical of me

Yeah I have to admit when I saw Ds9 the last time (around the time when I was 12 or so) I didn't care much for Ezri either I'm looking forward to see how I will react to her this time. She sounds interesting on paper and what I hear about her, can't wait to see her in action.
