Poopblic Transportation

Would you drive a car powered by poop?

I'd take a bus or car powered by poop. Of course I'd care about the filtration system and smells generated, but I doubt it would be as bad as what gasoline produces.

They're not literally pouring poop into cars and buses. Once it's been processed it's natural gas; it's odorless and colorless unless additives are mixed in.

Okay, my inner five-year-old gave a little giggle when I read Gaseous Anomaly's user name in the YES votes. ;)

Better be careful though - we don't want a secret like this getting out. Put the strongest encraption algorithm on it that you can.

The question is: Can the bus, when it has reached the end of it's lifespan, be converted into food fit for human consumption?

If so, then there is a perfect cycle. :)

My question: does it take more energy to produce than it benefits us? While a nice idea, what is the real cost of using this?

I'd want this answered before I give a YES vote, but I won't vote NO since I'm not ruling it out. How about WAIT AND SEE as an option?

But what if it could be perfected
Actually, we already have that. Over the last 2 decades there has been such a boom of bio-gas plants that one out of 10 farmers in my district has one (and all major wastewater treatment facilities and organic waste dumps). With the resulting methane we mainly run gas turbines and make electricity (the heat that's a by-product is used to heat schools, homes for disabled or elderly people and public baths) but there are also quite a few communities that run their buses on methane made from all kinds of organic waste.
So basically our waste does fuel that bus already :) And it keeps us warm, runs our washing machines and cooks our supper.
