"Documentary" puts a respectful spin on the circus act if it is in fact a reality show, and all pretense of being a private, "personal" matter is abandoned. Your hopes for a "positive media appearance" is already scuttled by any connection with the name "Kardashian."

Whether you agree with them or not, there are literally millions of people who enjoy following the various adventures of the Kardashian family.

Disagreeing with the worthiness of the subject does not make a documentary any less a documentary.

No question it's popular, but there have been so many revelations about the scripted and packaged "reality" of the Kardashian show and its ilk that I think most anyone who's familiar with the standards of documentary filmmaking would reject the comparison.

So "Keeping up with the Kardashians" is a documentary now? I guess that makes "the real housewives of Beverly Hills" a modern day version of "the thin blue line"?

Perhaps, but without further information we are not able to judge whether or not the upcoming Bruce Jenner project will be "reality" television or a documentary.

I'm convinced television just drives people insane. Or more accurately, all the behind-the-scenes crap and constant pressure and invasion of privacy by the paparazzi does it.

I actually feel bad for the guy. As well as most people who totally lose their shit because of modern day fame.

I thought the comment I was replying to was comparing the Kardashian reality show to a documentary. At any rate, given Jenner's association with the reality TV industry I know which type of production I'd wager on.

apparently people transitioning in their 60s isnt that uncommon. maybe they've fulfilled societies expectations, had children, and have less pressure to keep things repressed.

but it is rather disappointing in this day and age to find that someone being transgender is still the punchline to jokes.

It's none of our business, really. If it turns out he is transitioning, then more power to her, and I hope she finally feels comfortable in her own body. If not, then he's free to confirm or deny anything he wishes, when he wishes, should he wish to share it with everyone else. Otherwise, as I said, it's none of our damned business.

If Jenner or anyone else wants to switch sexes, I see no issue with it. It's their life to live, their choice to make. America won't fall because of it.

For what it's worth, various outlets reported that Jenner's planned "documentary" is in fact a show for E!, which airs the family’s current reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

It does not make me any less sympathetic to him (or her if in fact the reports are true). However it does tend to discredit any argument that Jenner deserves (or even wants) privacy over this.

Anything can be a punchline to a joke. Nothing is singled out for any particular reason other than finding humor in the human condition.

Sacred cows make great hamburger.

I just don't like the digging. Not that you're doing it, but when media outlets report, with breathless abandon, that Bruce Jenner wants to be a girl (teh OMGZ!), even though Bruce won't say anything, nor his agents. No one is saying anything, and only the most circumspect answers have been given, in order to preserve that privacy. So seeing these headlines from supposedly "legitimate" media outlets reporting that he most certainly is, and then somewhere about 3/4 of the way down the page they admit that no one has said anything, that bothers me.

If he does want privacy and plans to do a show/documentary later, then I say more power to him. People do need to see that being trans is perfectly okay, that it doesn't make one a freak, or a bad person. It's unfortunate that many trans people have to deal with being treated like circus sideshows, and it's not fair to them. If Bruce can give a serious, straightforward look into the process, then I hope he managed to make it work so others can learn about life for those who are transgender.

The other day I heard on the radio that the stipulation is that the show won't air until the Kardashian show has ended.

I don't watch "reality" tv, and what these people do has no impact on my life in any way. But I'm sticking by my opinion that this is one messed up family.

YMMV.

No way, you can't say that. So what if in reality Jenner is every bit as screwed up as the rest of his so-called family? He's possibly transitioning to a new gender, so he's totally sane and completely normal for that reason and that reason all. Saying otherwise makes you an insensitive, unenlightened fool!

Who cares if all other evidence points to him being on the not-entirely-normal-kinda-person side of the scale? Pfft on that.
