Adam Baldwin and Conventions

You know, I'd actually buy the idea that GamerGate was about ethics in gaming journalism if it wasn't completely focused on personally attacking any critic, almost universally focused on female critics. A few male critics are attacked, but they don't show the same intense hatred that the female critics get. They don't even address what they're criticizing, it's all personal attacks and conspiracy theories that Glenn Beck would find irrational.

Honestly, by the time Milo at Breitbart has finally backed away and said "you people are fracking crazy," there's just nothing left to be said.

This thread is so far off the original topic of Adam Baldwin, why hasn't it been closed?

Is it because a bunch of mods and an admin are participating in the derailment?

Instead of poking sticks at a member that has apparently proved to be posting false information, why not just nip it in the bud? I see a lot of topics shut down for less.

Trying to prove a point?

I'm disappointed. Not surprised, just disappointed.

I'm assuming it's still going because GamerGate (the source of the false information posted) is a topic directly related to Baldwin and his proclivities.

I had the same thought, but wasn't disappointed. Which staff member shuts down a thread in which another staff member has contributed to?

**** it, righteous cause.

It's about Gamergate, of which Adam Baldwin was a big part in getting that ball rolling. So it does pertain to him, as he has maintained an active interest in it, and is probably one of the primary reasons convention organizers are so jumpy.

As for disappointment, the only thing I'm disappointed in is seeing people whom I once liked defend misogyny and rape threats as if they're entitled to make those statements without fear of reprisal.

Jerks will be jerks, no amount of typing will change that. In my short tenure here, when threads degenerate into the 'You're wrong because of THIS' pattern, they generally get shut down.

What makes this thread different?

Adam Baldwin actually coined it GamerGate and his involvement is why this is happening, it is extremely relevant to the discussion. Without GamerGate there would not even be a thread in the first place, he'd just be the guy who played Jayne who happens to be conservative and randomly insults his liberal fans on Twitter.

Also TBS is a big boy and does not need to be defended because we brought facts and reality to a debate and he didn't. Any comment he makes is of his own free will and he is free to walk away at any time, we aren't forcing him to be here.

From an average site member's POV, it is a bit disconcerting to see a lot of green-colored names jump on someone despite the nature of their opinion. It's definitely 'colored' my view of the discussion in how it relates to this board.

As a fellow average site member, I counsel that thou unbunch thy pantaloons straight. The mods aren't a hive mind, and off their own forums they have no more standing in a discussion than the rest of us.

Locutus was the only green name who actually posted as a mod in this thread. And I think he only did so once. Because, you know, he actually had to do his mod job.
All the other posts weren't related to our mod status.

Mods are allowed to have opinions and participate in discussions. When we're not moderating we're just normal members.

Now when we're modding we're actually psychopathic alien raccoons.

Apart from Locutus. He's Groot.

We've humans beings, not disembodied entities devoid of personal opinions.

Only one Miscellaneous Forums mod has contributed that I see, there are two others staying out of it. If it's closed, it will likely be by consensus of the three, or someone higher on the ladder.

That it's so open everyone can get involved? Possum, { Emilia }, (sorry E!) and LoB may have green in their names, but they're damned even handed, and even if they weren't, they can't just warn you for disagreeing. They're just as much a part of the community as everyone else.
