I was trying to make something new and refreshing, not just re-arrange footage (even tough this already is not all that easy)

Well, i could do it on original size, then just zoom in and make it widescreen... That way i got both versions.

So, it would appear as we will have to wait a little more to get DS9 on Blu-ray, so, i though about making something new myself. I was thinking about re-edit the occupation arc in one 2 or more hours movie, in widescreen and with a little touch on the color correction.
So... you people think it could worth the try?
My two cents: It's certainly worth a try, but I'd nix the idea of making it in widescreen.
These episodes were shot and framed at 4:3. Just slapping widescreen bars over the image or cropping it to fit same would be the definition of lazy and more importantly, it wouldn't work. You'd have to adjust/crop every single shot in the piece which on its own would be a herculean effort and major timesuck...and it would totally go against the intention of how the people who made the show to begin with wanted to be presented.
I get that that last bit probably doesn't matter to a lot of people, but it's worth mentioning in these kinds of threads.
Personally, (as we've seen from the TNG two-parters recut into films) I don't know that it would work with "Call to Arms" -- that episode is just one major buildup to the evacuation of the station and you'd lose a lot of it's impact by cutting it down and eliminating the open-ended cliffhanger there. Too, the next episode picks up several weeks later, so you'd be well within your ability to just start with the seaso six premiere for this project. Still, I don't know that you'd be able to really fit all the necessary bits from the six episodes into as small a TRT as two hours, but it would at least be a fun editing exercise if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

Agreed, the repositioning of each scene is also going to be more trouble than it's worth...

This scene looks good but during the space battle scenes you might have to choose between a ship blowing up at the top of the screen or a ship attacking at the bottom.

If your purpose is to make people happy, then it's probably best to leave it at the original resolution. You'll only get people nitpicking your choice of edits if you do that.
If you take your time and do widescreen, some people will appreciate it while others will hate it just because you're going against the original intent, and still others will critique your choice of composition for each shot. That's in addition to the criticism of your choice of edits.
So it really all depends on your goal with this. My vote is to do what you think looks good and what makes you happy. This is a fan edit after all. Just go for it!
