Terry Farrell and DS9 Season 7

I don't think Shakespeare, Dante, George Lucas - anyone - could have written Jadzia Dax in a way that Terry Farrell could have played effectively.

It's subjective, of course, but from my point of view the writers definitely improved how they wrote the character and Farrell's acting/comfort with the role improved quite dramatically over the course of the series.

suum cuique pulchrum est

(^ I'm gonna need a speaking coach for that one. ;))

I agree with that.

I just re-watched blood oath and I must say that Jadzia didn't say her lines with the passion that these lines impled. It's as if she was helping the other actors rehearsing their parts without being one of them.

It's good that you do so. However, even if yours does not, many employers care enough to invest in their employees through extra training, coaching, workshops, and other forms of professional development. The idea is not unprecedented.

I think what we're seeing here is a phenomenon that pops up from time to time in fandom: An actor who decides to leave the show that's garnered the fans' affection -- or who just doesn't seem grateful enough for the privilege -- must become the object of derision. We see the exact same kind of snide remarks about Denise Crosby's post-TNG career. There's also a portion of the Buffy fandom that's still mad at Sarah Michelle Gellar for not being, I don't know, a big enough fan, or responsive enough to their affections, or something.

EXACTLY! Thank you for being the few submitters who actually had something meaningful to write.

Now watch it revert back to the Terry Farrell HATE thread. As if there's not enough bad words to say how much she was not good for a failing TV series, but when she moved on to Becker with Ted Dansen that series was a hit. DS9 was still garbage after her disgraceful departure.

My dislike of Jadzia Dax has zero to do with Terry Farrell leaving, couldn't give a rat's ass about that.

I just don't think the character was well written and acted, for the most part.

I don't hate the character, she had some fun momments, and good chemistry with Worf.

I also wish her death had been more meaningful and epic (preferably in battle).

But yeah, amongst the main cast of DS9 characters? She's my least favourite, after Jake. And surpassed by guests such as Garak, Dukat, Weyoun, Winn, Damar and others.

I don't think the show got worse with her death, and I enjoyed Ezri.

Nothing of this has anything to do with entitlement.

I'm curious: how is Tafkats contribution meaningful? He offers an interesting opinion, but that is all. I don't see anywhere in this thread where someone's opinion of Terry Farrell or the Dax character reflects a perception that the actress was disloyal to the franchise. Instead, I see lots of people arguing back and forth, some praising Farrell, others being apologetic, and some, like me, who are critical. Many of those response are grounded in discussions about the episodes and in examination of interviews and post-production commentary. All that is very substantive, making all of it, pro and con, far more meaningful that Takfats' opinion.

I actually had not seen Ds9 since my very early teens (12-13), back then I actually liked Jadzia, to the point that I hated Ezri for replacing her. Recently I have taken advantage of the holidays to re-watch Ds9 from the beginning.
And I have to say: God do I hate Jadzia. She IS badly written and Terry Farrel's acting IS horrible.
She really is everything at once; 4 science degrees at the age of 28 (without the help of her symbiont no less! Though the exobiology and zoology ones might have been a double degree), can fight so well with a bat'leth that Klingons respect her, works "on and off" on advanced mental disciplines, has the wisdom of 7 lifetimes and is so beautiful it is a curse and all the male characters are constantly hitting on her. I bet she can also fly, speaks to the animals and her footsteps make flowers bloom on dead soil .
I actually wanted to punch her during her trial in "Dax" when she just sat there looked sad/awkward and did nothing while everyone around her ripped their arse open to save her sorry butt. However by the end of the episode I actually wanted to punch the lady who saved her and inflicted 5 more seasons of Jadzia on us.
And in the Siege arc our "badass" Trill, who fights with Klingons and gambles with Ferengi, is suddenly scared of rodents. Rodents.

More like, Terry Farrewell, AMIRITE

Ironically, she didn't fare so well though...

Well there's that. It just sounds like she got too big for herself and demanding more money on the two biggest shows that she was on when she was never close to the best talent on either of them. (I never saw Becker because it never interested me, but Danson is a very good actor).

Greed effectively ended her career.
