How do you rate Last Christmas?

Yes, we Who fans have our likes and dislikes in regards to Doctors and companions...;)

It has nothing to do with liking the companions. It has to do with storytelling. Danny died, and "Last Christmas" gave Clara closure so she could move on.

Bringing him back would just be bad for the narrative.

Well, in post #230, it was stated that if Danny returned, there would be a personal annoyance. Hence, the reason I made a statement about personal fan likes and dislikes.;)

As for an actual return for those fans that do like the characters?

We'll shall see.
I feel like my point just went right over your head.

Not really.

I think the bottom line is: We just have different tastes.

Everyone knows Danny Pink is annoying. And his return would only confirm that.

Well, posters on a Trek site don't really constitute 'everybody.' ;) Too, I understand - on this board - there were those who hated the character because he was a handsome black man kissing an attractive white woman...so, there are certain unethical/racist reasons why the character is disliked.

I am a soldier and you don't like soldiers because they kill people.

You are a general and I don't like generals because they tell soldiers to kill people.

That shit going in circles got old fast.

:(

Twice an episode minimum, every episode.

I did not see what you're saying, here at least, at all.

I didn't like him because he was a bland character, badly portrayed by the actor.

10 years ago Mickey was mounting Rose, making her see stars, and no one gave a toss.

No one even cared in the slightest 5 years ago, when Mickey stuck a bun in Jackie's oven.

Interracial couples are the norm in modern Who; Amy and Rory are the notable exception.

I didn't dislike Danny, though I can't say I ever cared about the character. That was the material's fault, not the actor's; the Christmas special showed what Anderson could do with good material. But Danny's story is done, Clara has her closure, and it's time to move on.

Hardly, there are those (myself included) who would have preferred a relationship between Clara and Rigsy from Flatline instead of Danny, so clearly race isn't the issue. He was just a really bland and uninteresting character.

Pete Tyler was the father of Jackie's baby (Tony), not Mickey

Oh, that's what they want you to think!

(No seriously, this is one of those conspiracies weirdos persist is real. The only difference is that Noel Clark said/agreed she was carrying Mickey's baby at a couple conventions as a joke.)

Aside from that, it sounds like Clara is coming back for next season - good news! - and rightfully so, since I gather that the Clara/Danny (Clanny? Dlara? Dara?) storyline is going to be given some closure, where we see Danny brought back from the dead at some point.

What the heck?! It was made totally clear in the special that Danny is gone for good. It seems that Moffat got the message that the character was a whiney, needy, bore. It's also clear that Clara will be travelling with the Doctor and their baggage was dealt with and done with.

It should be great! :)

Well, maybe for some race wasn't an issue, but there were those who were vocal about the Who producers 'forcing' interracial relationships on the audience. So to say race was completely a non-issue with those who hate the Danny character is nonsense. We're coming to the usual 'It's not about race' card when in some cases, it is.

When time permits, I'm going back to search in one of the Who review threads to find said comments about producers 'forcing interracial relationships' since I also want to put those comments in my 'Race and Fandom' blog.

Oh no, we obviously agree that assholes think that, and even say that.

Dinosaurs.

Our (I never speak for the group. What am I thinking?) ...My only argument is that these hypothetical racists are probably a tiny, tiny minority no one in power listens to, panders to, caters to or respects.

Besides, white on Black American racism is different to white on black British racism, so you can't willy nilly apply your moral system to what dirty foreigners are getting up to.

Has there been any kickback about "Danny" kissing another white girl in Trollied?

(I just realized that I haven't seen the final episode!)

Oh.

I think Samuel Anderson is a Cylon, just like Sam Anders is a Cylon. If he wasn't a Cylon, then why the frakk would his parents name him that?

Well, we may have a cute romantic relationship w/ John Boyega/Daisy Ridley relationship in the new "Star Wars" trilogy. Not too mention the upcoming movie "Focus" with handsome Will Smith, and white Aussie blond Margot Robbie, looks to have something romantic going on....Unfortunately, online posters tend to feel a bit more 'bold' in their comments...especially in regards to race and fandom (e.g. Rue and "The Hunger Games"). No doubt those aforementioned relationships will have some questionable backlash, more so online. (However, as Boyega said to his online critics 'Get used to it').

On another note: Shonda Rhimes, a black female producer/writer, pushed the envelope on network television and, I've wondered what she would do with a Trek show. Now I'm wondering what she would do with a Who episode?

I think that was me. But it wasn't meant to be racist. I just commented on my observation. I had no problem with Rose and Mickey, nor Martha and her Dr. Boyfriend (who was white), nor Donna and Lance (well, he turned out to be a traitor to Earth) or the guy she eventually married. I commented on it because it looked like they (the producers) cast Clara's boyfriend with a black actor just because. There HAS to be other British actors out there, white, black, yellow or brown that had more chemistry with Clara than they got.

Shonda was playing Beer Pong on an episode of the Mindy Project recently. :)

This woman's magic comes from constructing a series of delayed explosions throughout the course of a season each more shocking and relevant than the last.

Giving her just one episode?

Not enough.
