New unofficial Making of TMP book

No confirmation email here yet, but with the wonderful British postal service there's no way this will be turning up before the New Year for me anyway.

^^^From where is the top photo?

Just read an account by Nichelle about thinking about leaving the show after the second season, and she mentions being talked out of it by Gene. No MLK reference.

Fascinating.

Wish we could get the tape of the PBS special from around this time to see how she tells the story there.

I thought the MLK story was about Nichols wanting to leave after the first season?

I know where it is, but my local PBS station (which produced it) has been of no help in locating it.

Had my confirmation/dispatch email. But still don't expect to see it this side of 2015 (as something from outside the UK I'm expecting a customs charge as well to hold things up. They're a lottery but I've not had much luck there recently)

I wonder if there is anyone at work with the right PBS connection. I know we've produced some content for PBS. Hmm...

And, yeah, the versions I've heard before this were about the end of season one, not the end of season two. Double hmm...

I too have always heard it was after the end of the first season and that it was King, not Roddenberry who urged her to remain with MLK's infamous "You cannot!" reply to her admitting she was considering leaving the show.

I have no doubt Nichols retells the story in her biography Beyond Uhura, and I'm almost positive it was included on the first editions of the TOS DVD Season sets, but I feel like I read it also in another book -- The Original Series Compendium by Allan Asherman perhaps?

FINALLY received my shipping notice e-mail from Creature Features today, despite having placed my order on July 19th (literally only the day after it went up for preorder, from what I understand).

It's not showing any type of tracking number or anything similar, though -- did anyone else happen to get one with theirs?

I called them and got the tracking number that way.

As to the PBS program, what the station basically said was, "we don't have the resources to dig through the archive to look for it." I'll pester them again about it.

This book is truly amazing. I've spent most of today reading it. Just finished Part I, so after 134 pages, cameras are about to roll.

I'd keep reading but I have to go make the stuffing for dinner...

I just finished reading it. I have only a few quibbles but they're hardly worth mentioning. What I like is how much mythology gets debunked here. Now we can finally really know why the security guard zap was omitted, why some of the mattes (like Vulcan) look so bad, why some of the dialog was cut, why we never saw all of V'ger, how little Roddenberry had to do with post, and that some of the claims made by the Director's Edition team were, indeed, hogwash.

For a lot of readers the latter sections about the techniques and tech of making many of the VFX are going to be essentially incomprehensible technobabble. Minus the illustrations which were clearly intended to accompany the text as planned for Cinefantastique some of it was hard to follow even for someone who's read up on these VFX techniques for 30+ years, like me.

That's all I got. No tracking number and no clear indication what "complete" signifies, since it sure hasn't arrived.

That's all I got, too; that email was on Dec. 18th, deliverey was USPS on the 23rd.

I was already reading another fairly big book, but I've started on this one anyway. I'm quite happy with it so far.

I haven't even gotten any confirmation email. The only email I got was on the day I ordered it and it was from paypal and it had an invoice number. I ordered it on Dec 15th.
