Do you think they'll keep making Abramsverse movies after #3?

But, I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that something is wrong with Starfleet or the Federation because of one scene.

Of course it is.

If folks with a certain fan mentality had been in charge of TOS the energy and life would have been sucked out of it in their effort to have it conform with their notions of plausibility and appropriate characterization.

I have no vested interest in the "Abramsverse." It is not our timeline. Even if it represents the hopeful and optimistic future of Prime Trek, it doesn't do that in our Universe where it has meaning and significance. I don't care about the Abramsverse, so I'd rather they return to ours where it has relevance intrinsic to our worlds. If the movies continue, I'll watch them as simple fiction and not a statement about where we want our future to go. Because it's not our future. It's someone else's, just like in NextGen's "Parallels." How many of us really care about all those other Enterprises? So that's different than really caring about Star Trek; caring about our own future. Even as a longtime Trekkie, if there were no more Star Trek and I knew that Star Trek had to continue in the Abramsverse were it to continue at all, it would simply fade from my thoughts and I'd not think much about it nor fight, beg and plead for its existence to keep it alive like we did during TOS. Meh.

Don't let the door it you on your way OUT.

I'd actually like a new tv series...on CBS.

But with Lin coming on board for Trek III...we'll probably get more movies now.

I'd not think much about it nor fight, beg and plead for its existence to keep it alive like we did during TOS.

Well, Trek doesn't depend upon that kind of thing for its existence. It exists as long as it pleases enough viewers.

That was unnecessary and uncalled-for.

But didn't someone have it on "rock solid authority" that in about a month we're all going to be rescued from this dire fate by CBS who plan to resurrect the "one TRUE PRIME universe", on TV, where every TRUE fan knows Trek belongs?

I'm soooo CONFUSED!!!! :scream:
I'll give 'em credit for consistency: Para and company are still acting as if the movie is DOA and the Justin Lin announcement means nothing.

It's a measure of how strongly something inspires people. Star Trek TOS existed in its third season not because it pleased people, but because it pleased them enough to overcome its cancellation. It often exists only as long as the networks or studios are interested in pleasing people - not simply for pleasing people.

That Kitzman guy is a pretty funny too.
And Para now seems to be giving ST3 a 20% chance of happening

Para Mobius has to back away from his predictions in such a way that he can later claim he was somehow right but Things Changed.

You know, Joe McCarthy handled a lot of stuff with this kind of logic, although to much more malign effect. He did a remarkable job of conning people with bits and pieces of nonsense that allegedly added up to something really big if you knew the whole picture.

So do I need to post "Have you no decency sir?" on that FB page?

Virtually all Internet predictions are phrased in such a way that the author can weasel his or her out of them if they have to. Its the nature of the business.

Harvey over there is a real winner. I'll check this page back in July 2016. Ought to be a lot of fun.

I love how Dennis is the same on FB as he is here.

Para would be an excellent snake oil salesman.

On the Trek Today thread about the new director, there's one lonely voice  who's happy with the development of the new director announcement--and a whole bunch of people with their knickers in a twist. Almost none of them appear to post in here, though. Maybe that Faraci fella was right about all the "backlash"?

Nah.

I think I've spotted you. I recognize two of the other names for sure as TBBS posters, probably a third and a maybe fourth. As for the rest of the commenters, yikes.

It doesn't matter who directs. The purists aren't going to be happy until they get the "real" timeline back. Preferably written and directed in the style of a 1990s tv episode . . . .

But the thing is, the movie isn't being made just for the purists. It's intended for the rest of us, Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike.

More importantly, the movie hasn't even started filming yet. There will time enough to pass judgment on it in July 2016 . . . nearly two years from now!

Sounds right to me. :techman: It'll be interesting to see how it all turns out.

In the interim, however, I'm sure we're in for plenty of baseless speculation and very dramatic hand-wringing.
