I know several people on the board who have been waiting for this moment. Pretty neat!

 

I'd have been happier if it was done in conjunction with the S & S people and the Treklit authors.

I certainly agree.

 

I don't know how I feel about this. I suppose it's going to depend on what this actually is. If this is just a recap of the various episodes and movies from Kirk's point of view, then how is this different from so many other recap books? But, if this is actually written as an autobiography and gives us insight into Kirk's thoughts, feelings, motivations, etc. during the various episodes and movies and, more importantly, if it gives us insight into unseen periods of his life, then this could be very, very awesome.

 

I'm with Relayer1 on this. I'd much rather see it come from Pocket. I know they gave up on Trek nonfiction, for the most part, but I haven't been blown away by a lot of the stuff other publishers have been licenced to produce.

 

I love Captain Kirk.

He's been an idol of mine since early childhood, as far back as I can remember.

But I have to say, the thought of this book gives me pause.

The Autobiography of James T. Kirk?

Haven't we been "witnessing his life events" for almost 50 years?

 

I don't think this is really a recap book. I think it's supposed to be similar to the Federation: First 150 Years book, just focused directly on Kirk and told from his perspective.

And I agree with the above comments that I would have preferred something like this from the Pocket novel continuity. Yeah, I know, future TOS novels will be free to pick and choose what they like from this and incorporate it into their story, but I wasn't really blown away by the Federation 150 book. While I do plan on reading this, I don't have high expectations.

 

Amazon has it for pre order. It's a $25 list, so I'm not expecting it to be lavishly illustrated like the other Becker&Mayer! Trek titles.

 

The only book I own published by Titan is the Star Trek - Art of the Film book. I've passed on everything else and I probably will on this as well. Just seems like a lame idea to me.

I'm curious about what Kirk would be allowed to talk about. I can't imagine him blabbing about the Guardian of Forever, secret Vulcan mating rituals or war-baiting missions into Romulan space. If the author assumes everything is public knowledge I will be disappointed. The idea of Kirk finding roundabout ways to discuss, say, Edith Keeler without giving away that Starfleet knows of a magical time portal is where my interest lies.

 

I'd be more interested in a focus on the stuff we didn't see on the show, like Kirk's childhood and adolescence, his early Starfleet and command experience, and the things he did as an admiral between movies. I don't think the book needs to spend a lot of time rehashing the episodes and movies we already know by heart.

Though they could've come up with a catchier title. Something like Prime Directives: Being a Cowboy on the Final Frontier but better.

 

Isn't Kirk's autobiography called Risk Is Our Business according to one of the novels? I wanna say it was by Peter David.

 

Could be cool. Wish they were using an actual picture of Kirk on the cover, though.
