They had a slot for July 2016. That ship has sailed. They might possibly make it for a Christmas 2016 slot -- if one is available -- but the script needs to be written now. My client and I can write an original script and have it done by CBS's announcement 30 Jan. But someone needs to approach me now.

In the real world, Leslie E Owen has co-authored a children's book, and does some editing work. Writing Star Trek 3 will be quite the boon to her career.

I agree the cast has no idea of the mess they were being sucked into, they were used.... Wes, Bad Robot does want this movie as they are paid up front and make huge profits as they bill for CGI. FX everything..... and Orci did want to direct... it is simply not going the way they wanted and believe Paramount cannot risk investing in ST3 as has ~tank~ written all over it... when the games stop suspect it will be noise they made so BR cannot say they did not act in earnest and they simply will have timed out the clock. Orci says he could not even read in English the notes they wanted him to do they were sending as they were unintelligible so he quit. This whole thing is now a fiasco.

Para Mobius said:
Yes now he is saying he quit.... Star Trek was not dead. Viacom split and Paramount lost control of the franchise to CBS, this whole scam was to take the franchise back with alternative copyrights dreamed up by Paramount after the split and it failed. They paid a fortune for a 10 year non compete in the mix. STID cost Paramount 28% of its company value, got 110 people fired and in March 2014 every SR management person that supported the over funding of this movie was fired by the Viacom stockholders board, so is a pretty big screw up. http://wallstcheatsheet.com/stocks/...ilmsthat-barely-made-a-profit.html/?a=viewall

Leslie... he has told his friends that Paramount was wanting him to be part of making an inferior movie that did not live up to his quality standards and he did not think Gene would approve of, and he could not work with them as they were sending him notes on scripts that the writing was so bad it was unintelligible. So am breaking more of my insider news... should start showing up in the media over the next few days. He explained he stepped down and will produce, but he could just not be a part of making a low quality product. (What was i saying about hiring the Information Minister from the Gulf War to represent BR in all future news releases ) http://www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com/images/07-minister.jpg
So his "insider news" is the Badass Digest article.

Seriously, I'm not even sure what I just read. Also, can all the conspiracy theorists do me a favor and write in whole sentences that I can at least kind of follow? :brickwall:

Also, the page linked for the Wall Street whatever is now 404-sources indeed

I think there's only one thing to consider in both Para Mobius and miloowen's posts. We should watch Prelude to Axanar.

In ST alternate timelines and parallel universes can exist in the same continuity.

Exactly. The scenes in Back to the Future II where Biff is rich are still part of the Trilogy aren't they?

"I just want to say, God bless America"

Fuck

Step 1: Grasp head firmly with both hands
Step 2: Brace torso securely
Step 3: Pull head out of ass
Step 4: Write Fucking script
Step 5: Make Fucking movie

I love how easy it is to claim that you have "insider news", pull content out of you hindquarters, and then get people to believe you.

We should watch Prelude to Axanar.

I did. Nice effects, nothing groundbreaking from a storytelling point-of-view. I'll watch the final product before passing final judgement.

Well, if you believe those two, it's the second coming of Trek. These guys either are fanboys or creators of this Axanar thing. (More likely the later.) It seems to me like they're just trying to stir up some publicity for it by raising some controversy elsewhere with nothing real to back it up. But, I've been wrong before.

At no time and in no way has any Trek fan production been considered by CBS, Paramount, UPN or the Great Fucking Bird himself for any kind of official sanction. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wilfully delusional, a liar or both.

I can believe that CBS will do a Trek show at some point in the medium-term future, but it sure as shit won't be based on a fan film.

Star Trek vs. Star Wars vs. Alien vs. Predator vs. Godzilla WILL happen

Looks like that link is returning a 404 because Para screwed it up in copy-pasting the URL. Try this one:

It's funny, Star Trek Into Darkness underperformed but it was a series of underperforming films that put Paramount in trouble. He's really working the spin machine hard. Plus, that article says nothing about senior management being fired.

Also perhaps worth noting is that Star Trek films (up to and including the 2009 movie) have historically performed much better domestically than in the international market, taking in the neighborhood of two-thirds of the box-office gross at home, versus one-third overseas - an inversion of the typical formula for Hollywood blockbusters. It's stated in the article that it's harder to turn a profit outside the U.S.:
Because overseas distributors take much higher percentages of the gross, every dollar made domestically is worth more than a dollar made overseas.
Could it be that the push by Paramount to discard what worked well for the first movie in favor of marketing STID more aggressively to the international market is where the real problem lies, rather than the production budget or anything else over which Abrams and Bad Robot had any control?

Not really, because if they can't make movies on this "tentpole" level work for them internationally then the movies aren't really worth continuing to do. Star Trek used to be a kind of mid-level product, where they could put a reasonable budget into it and expect a reasonable return. Now they're mega-budget movies and all the considerations are different.
