New gameplay was just released. The first few minutes are just Drake climbing around, but once the combat starts...HOLY SHIT.

    I am so pumped.

Jeez, this is the game that might just get me to get a PS4. The title is fitting, if it really is the end. But I was kind of hoping this could be the start of a new trilogy on the new console. But either way, it makes me excited for whatever's to come for Naughty Dog.

I remember rumors a year or so ago that they might continue the series with a different protagonist, though honestly that doesn't interest me at all. If you're going to do that, just make it a new series with a different name.

I'm intrigued that Nate apparently has a brother, especially since we learned in the last game that his father gave him up as a ward of the state after his mother committed suicide.

Agreed, actually. But if they do end it, there's little point to having another game in their catalog that mimics Uncharted too closely. The impressive thing about what we've seen so far of Uncharted 4 is that it looks like you have more of an open-world to explore, though I've always felt they built really nice environments that felt more open than they really were, giving a feeling of space, and the one thing I noticed about the gameplay video is how much more depth they seem to be using. The added view distance only adds to that effect.

Yeah, and actually that leads to a theory I have. The Uncharted titles have always held double meanings. They aren't always the straight meaning they seem to be. In Uncharted 3 for instance, the Deception wasn't of Nathan's making, but of Francis Drake's. My theory here is that his brother will end up being the thief with the end, not himself. Going in that direction, it seems like there could be a potential encounter with his brother, forcing one to kill the other, but at the same time getting Nathan to second-guess himself, retiring, and effectively putting his globe-trotting life to an end.

This is actually one thing I noticed that I didn't like upon replaying all the games. The scenery is sooooo beautiful, but most of the missions are so fast-paced that you rarely get the chance to actually appreciate the amount of detail that went into creating them.

Maybe, but that was the whole point of Uncharted 3, wasn't it? That he finally retired from being a thief and gave up his dangerous life in order to be with Elena. Presumably this game takes place several years later, and something forces Nate to get back in the game.

Not from what I remember. We did hear Sully complaining that he was "getting too old for this shit.", that he himself was thinking of retiring, and then he went and got captured by those pirates. We saw a theme throughout the game with Sully trying to convince Nathan to settle down though. That's about as close to what I remember any form of retirement talk. Though we do see them finally getting back together at the end.

Well, I just replayed it for the third time last week. :p

The whole game has characters basically trying to figure out why Nathan puts himself in so much danger. One by one, they all call it quits when things get too crazy, but for some reason Nathan keeps going.

The game basically ends with him choosing to give up his adventurous ways in order to be with Elena again. He may not have given up the treasure-hunting, but he's no longer risking his life in search of it.

Those games mainly make me wonder how the heck Nathan Drake jumps around like that.

But they look awesome. Kind of thing that might eventually persuade me to buy a console. Which is no easy feat.

Yeah, my roommate and I used to call it The Game of Impossible Jumps.

We'd both get stuck in places in the game, not sure where we're supposed to go next, because surely there's no way in hell that any character should be able to jump that far...but then we jumped, and somehow we survived.

Well then.... That trumps my last playthrough ;)

Yes, I do remember that. But I see it more that they were badgering him out of friendship, just making sure he comes out OK. They always trade barbs, so I never saw that as being any different. But in the end, they all respect him for what he does, no?

Obviously Elena wasn't enough of a temptation to keep him from putting himself in danger ;)

But yeah, those jumps. It's basically an action-adventure movie inside a game. That's how I rationalize it. Indy survived the fridge, so anything goes, especially in a game. He's the game world's version of Indy. But I can't help but imagine how sore he must feel after jumping around so much.

I think there may be a chance once this series is over, if it truly is over, that they might think of making a movie. My wish would be for them to base it on the second game as that was the strongest one so far. Also the most interesting one.

Well, this will at least be more of a game than The Order.

Both will look very pretty though.

An "Uncharted" movie is already in the early stages of production.
