Piper decided not to tell the truth long before Alex walked into the courtroom, she decided to lie when Alex told her on the way there that the kingpin would extract revenge on her. She made that speech about how she was only interested in Alex to make her lack of knowledge more credible.

Not everybody called to testify at a trial is testifying against a super-connected drug kingpin.
