The Completely Shallow Holiday Materialism Thread.

To quote the great Holdfast, "I am consumerism's bitch, and I like it that way."

This thread is all about the eternal question, "What do you want for Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus/Kwanza/Winter Solstice/Pagan Winter Festival?"

There shall be NO Miss America Answers ("I would like World Peace!"), no kind-hearted, deep, introspective, admirably soulful or philosophical answers. Take those mature and sensible answers elsewhere, please. This is all about the nitty-gritty, simple, basic physical STUFF that someone can actually purchase for you. I want you to access that greedy, little inner-two-year old who is waiting for Santa to bring him or her that special gift! Want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle? Post it here; I promise not to say, "You'll shoot your eye out."

It seems like I spend all of November and December badgering family with the question, "What do you want for Christmas?" like some holiday version of Babylon 5's Mr. Morden. I have a few relatives who wait until the last bloody minute every year to tell me or just say, "Oh, you don't have to get me anything," when I know damn well if I don't get them something, I will never, EVER hear the end of it.

So, BBSer's, what do you want?

Spices from Pensey's Spice Company
All my Star Trek Stuff "they" made me throw away
A new Infiniti M Class car
A kick-ass man cave

And, a

Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range

Spices from Pensey's Spice Company

I freakin' LOVE Pensey's. They have a store--on the very far side of town--about a 45 minute drive, one way. But I go there once a year, just to go around and smell all the spices and pick up a few of my favorites. The Rocky Mountain Spice blend is AWESOME for chicken wraps and the Tzardust is great for pork and beef.

I'll play. I'm in a me, me, me mood. I want
my hair cut and coloured,
The Professionals on Bluray,
sheepskin slippers,
big bunch of flowers and a lovely vase to put them in,
Decleor skin treatments,
Voyager on DVD,
Thierry Mugler Angel gift set or the biggest bottle of perfume.

I actually actually consulted my Christmas wish list. First time in years I've had one.

Lots of games.
Games I can buy myself, what I want is time to fucking play them.

Seriously though, over the last couple of years, Christmas has become all about giving presents, which is now the thing I anticipate most. The stuff I want I buy for myself throughout the year, so coming up with a wishlist is actually kinda hard.

Oooo....thanks for the suggestions!!! I have not had either of those. I have to rely on care packages here, and then the spice actually making it through customs! Nearest Penzey's is about 7500 miles away!

Try the Lemon-Garlic for fish or chicken, and the Chicago or Mitchell Street rub. There is a Penzey's recipe for pulled pork that, well, let's just say...yeah!!!!

Damn, and the baking spices..but you already know that. Ok, we gotta have a Penzey's Cooking Fest soon! :techman:

Amen, The Gift of Time!!!

New saddle bags for my motorcycle. The aftermarket ones that came with the bike .... not a fan of the look and one is slightly damaged.

That's all I can think of. At my age, I just buy what I want when the need or the mood strikes.

Q2

Money. That way I'm assured I get what I need (wants wil come if anything is left over) and if it doesn't work or I need to return it for some reason, I know I have the receipt.

A water softener. A reverse osmosis water filter system for my kitchen. An Athos sensor and shirt. A bottle Hibiki 12. No, make it the 17. It's Christmas.

^Are you on a well-system? My parents had that problem with their old house. Then, when the water-softener was added to the system, the water was so "soft," it was weird. It would take forever to wash your hands, because it never felt like the soap washed off.

My hubby and I both have Amazon wishlists, mostly to keep track of things for ourselves but also for friends who want to send us things from time to time. I have a lot silly, frivolous things on mine--things I want but don't need:

Doctor Who boots and blanket
Jim Shore Santas (I just like them)
Supernatural Clue
The Walking Dead version of BANG!
some clothes
Little Thinker dolls (Shakespeare, Dickens, Chaplin, Sherlock Holmes)
a magnetic bulletin board
A Mighty Muggs Indy (to go with my Sallah)
A throw blanket fro ZGallerie
A leaf broach
Blake's 7 books
Some color changing electric candles.

I've been asked this by family and I just don't have a clue:(

I'd like the second seasons of Newsroom & Orphan Black on blu-ray but besides that, there's some boring things I probably could use. For frivolous stuff, I just keep looking around for any suggestions.

Kate Upton, Olivia Wilde and Milla Jovovich wearing nothing but red ribbon and ready to do my bidding.

(hey, if we're gonna waste time asking Santa for stuff, I'm going for broke...)

Nah. I'm on municipal. But my water softener doesn't work currently and I burn through Zero filters pretty quickly. I was having some plumbing work done and the guy gave me an estimate for the water filter system his company pushes. It was more expensive than the water softener I've been putting off. There are much cheaper alternatives on Amazon which is probably the route I'll go.

After coming back from a short shopping trip, I can now think of other things I would like: Christmas decorations!

If I had the money, I would deck every freakin' hall in the house. Hubby, however, is a total Scrooge, as he comes from a family of joyless bastards. I, however, would like to decorate every damn thing in the house, and I would, if I had that kind of money. But I don't. My mom instilled a great love of the holiday in me; that woman puts Martha Stewart to SHAME.

Mom has an impressive collection of nutcrackers; I would like to have a collection of my own--maybe Santas, or nutcrackers or both, or....or... .

Damn, I love Christmas.
