Having Winter be canon would be sweet. The agent that looks like a real (old school traditional) princess and can look regal. Leia is much less traditional in style and appearence. She can give and air of royalty, but the face (and voice) quickly give way to her being more down to earth and willing to do things herself.
One thing of course is that there should be lots of Corellian Corvettes in the galaxy. Not just the Tantive IV.
The Inquisitor has been seen reporting directly to Vader. It's a fair bet that's who he's talking about. Keep in mind that he need not be a Sith to have one as his master, I imagine Vader has many such servants.
This is why they should not have released the premiere without the Vader scene. I know it was for additional marketing hype, and I've seen some opinions that the premiere was "better" somehow without Vader but - they really should have just included it from the start. It helps immensely to get a sense of Vader's position in this new time period.
BTW, that rebel blockade runner at the end? Different colors than Bail Organa's ship.

Of course, if they go that route they may have to make her a bit older. A 15 year old Leia acting on her own initiative is one thing, Bail willingly sending someone that age into danger is quite something else...on the other hand, Padme had a decoy/bodyguard about the same age, so who knows?

Almost certainly. However, the intended implication and the connection the viewer is expected to make is fairly obvious, given--as I said---how iconic that design is. Indeed, aside from a few background fillers, I'm pretty sure that no other ship of that design has been prominently featured in the movies or TCW.
Winter is basically Leia's decoy in some respects. They are almost sisters in how they act. Winter able to act more like royalty than Leia. Winter is said to have holographic memory, which would make her a great agent to listen in on things. Even in the old EU both Winter and Leia were active by three years before Yavin (16 years old), and Rebels talks place just over a year before that. At that time (if I recall) they were both skilled already, so they've done stuff prior to whatever story that was.
Considering that Padme has political experiance prior to being elected Queen of Naboo at 14, and her handmaidens were all well trained, not only to impersonate her, but also to act as bodyguards, Leia and Winter could easily be active already in Rebels. Leia would be turning 15 just a few days after Empire Day, and Winter is about the same age.
Though given that this is Disney, I somehow think if Winter is used, she'll look a little like one of the main characters in Frozen.
(How did Bail's ship look in "Droids in Distress"? Was it blue or red?)
I just checked and it's actually red like in ANH. So maybe that one is the Tantive IV and the one we saw in the more recent episode is some same one from RotS? (Tantive III for the sake of argument?)
Of course it could be nothing to do Bail whatsoever. Only time will tell.
^Well that was needlessly complicated...which pretty much sums up 90% of the old EU.
A quick search later and it turns out that despite the initial intent, the red and blue blockade runners have been retconned to be different ships: Tantive IV & Sundered Heart respectively.

Ahhh.... good! I like that. A lot. That makes a lot more sense that it would be two separate ships. And I feel like it's a common design. In ROTJ, do we not see no less than 3 of those ships jump from Sullust to Endor?
I like this, too... re-watching all the Rebels episodes to date over the weekend I found myself chuckling to think this! It's possibly the laziest form of rebellion possible. Were I to exist in the SW universe it may be my own fate...
I wish. It's when he's spouting boilerplate Force lessons to Ezra that he's least interesting as a character. Although I'm hard-pressed to think of any point when he has managed to be interesting.
To me the times that he's most interesting is when he's in his serious, no-nonsense smuggler mode, and speaking frankly about the need to make money at the same time they're striking out at the Empire. Or when he's leading a mission like in Rise of the Old Masters and isn't in the mood for Ezra's silliness.
What doesn't work as well is when he's being all loose and goofy, or trying to do his Obi-Wan Kenobi impression. And unfortunately those are the things the show seems to be focusing on with him more and more lately.
You know that strip Garfield without Garfield? It aims to prove that the comic without Garfield is a funnier comic. I feel the urge for something similar here: Rebels without Ezra. I actually feel Kanan alone might be enough to make things interesting with the Jedi stories. Ezra's lines are cringe-worthy. Every one of them.
The criticism here of Kanan is interesting, definitely accurate, he does appear to be championing a Obi-Wan impression of sorts. He didn't have much time to "be" a Jedi as his training was cut short. I just find that less irritating than anything Ezra says. In the beginning of Out of the Darkness when Hera says to Ezra that he's "not ready" to pilot her ship... then three TIEs come at them and Ezra shouts, "Not ready. Not ready!!" - WTF does that even mean? He's the least articulate Star Wars hero ever.
Anyone think Ezra's parents are undercover fighting the Empire from within?
Great news for those looking to catch up on the series and/or have no way to view it, looks like StarWars.com is streaming the first 5 episodes of the series for free up until Dec 7th. For non-'Mericans: I'm in Canada and it loaded up for me... http://www.starwars.com/tv-shows/star-wars-rebels
I've only found Ezra to be truly annoying in Fighter Flight and Out of Darkness so far. In most other eps I can tolerate him just fine.
Although... I am looking forward to the time he becomes a much more mature and experienced member of the group. And Filoni has suggested that we will see him grow and develop over time, which is a good thing.
Yeah, Ezra was a bit annoying at first, but now that they've eased up on the whole "Street rat" thing, and he's taking things more seriously, he's starting to grow on me. Its nice to see actual character development in a show like this.
And I've always been impressed with Kanan. He upholds the mysticism of the Jedi, but he's at least practical about, taking the fight to the Empire rather than going into hiding and waiting like Obi-Wan and Yoda. He also isn't too proud to strap on and use a blaster, which I can respect.
Chopper is really the only character who continues to get on my damn nerves.
"Gathering Forces" was a good episode! I was very surprised to see a return to the Pitch Black abandoned base but I liked the idea of them using them to fight the Inquisitor. It was also great to see Kanan fight (and lose) to the I Guy again and to see Ezra show some real Force talent. I appreciated how serious this episode was, there were no goofy antics this time around.
Ezra's Dad looked like an aged Clone Trooper... and Fulcrum was on Tantive IV... hmm...

Yeah, that whole scene was nicely done. From the Imperials arrival (the recycled music fit this scene quite well) which was one of the few times in the show where they actually felt threatening. To the fight scene. The alternating blue and red lighting effects were quite beautiful. And well done to the animators of Ezra's facial expressions during his brush with the dark side and summoning the large creature.
Needless to say I'm pretty unhappy at having the wait til January for more. This show has got me hooked.
The only problem with that fight scene is that the I Guy should have taken down that monster in about 15 seconds, particularly when it ran away the second it got cut. That was very artificial to give the heroes time to get away.
This was the strongest episode yet. A pretty effective story without any of the annoying antics of earlier episodes, and with some very interesting stylistic touches. Like, have we ever seen a hyperspace-entry shot where other ships were in the frame and got slit-scan-style distorted like that? And the turbulent hyperspace separation/exit was pretty interesting too -- the lighting effects reminded me of the Star Trek: The Motion Picture wormhole sequence, giving it a very '70s feel, in a good way. The contrasting red/blue lighting on the Inquisitor's face was very effective. And I was struck by the shot from behind the Inquisitor just after the Imperial shuttle blew up -- somehow the color and lighting and composition looked very much like a Ralph McQuarrie painting to me, and I don't usually notice their McQuarrie nods that clearly.
Also, nice Akira nod with the levitating objects around Ezra. This will probably be added to the relevant TV Tropes page before long.
Gathering forces was a good episode. Effects, music, story. Really felt like something out of the original trilogy. The music during the lightsaber battle, was that new or reused music?
"/Film has now exclusively heard that Lucasfilm not only knows where Rebels will end, the company knows what’s next for the Star Wars animated world.
Rumor has it that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to do “about” three or four seasons of Star Wars Rebels before starting a whole new Star Wars animated series, with all new characters, set in the timeline of the current movies (the Star Wars sequel trilogy).
Since this is so early, there aren’t a lot of specific details. The new cartoon series will be set during the Sequel Trilogy timeline (Episodes VII and beyond), which will be very familiar to fans by that time. If Rebels does go three or four seasons, the new show would hypothetically start in 2017 or 2018, around the same time we’ll see Star Wars Episode VIII. That means we’ll have at least one, possibly two movies of world building in which to set up a new story and set of characters."
I just hope they finish what they started this time. If Rebels only has about 50-60 episodes in it, fine. But the loose ends should be tied up for all the main characters. I was hoping Rebels might tighten up some loose threads from TCW, and it still may. (cough)Maul(cough).
Does anyone expect to see a scene with
They are by no means the focus of the series, but I can't imagine Disney would pass up an opportunity to see this play out. Vader would be on the lookout for her, as a strong force user. Apparently Filoni let it slip in an interview that something like that may happen, and had a conversation with Lucas about whether or not she would be able to tell Anakin is under the armor in his presence. At least we are sure to see Vader interacting with the Ghosts' heroes.
On the thought of how-does-it-all-end, how dark is this series going to go? It sort of makes no sense to have Kanan and Ezra survive to the point of episode IV where it appears to be a galactic truth that no Jedi remain. Yet does this very kids-friendly show have the balls to off it's two main characters?
On the thought of how-the-season-will-end, hoping for the heroes to be captured and their ship seized. That would really raise the stakes. And having Ezra turn to the dark side, too. That should reduce the silliness by a wide factor.
Just a fantastic episode all around. And yeah, they're really doing a great job capturing the look and feel of the OT, especially in the space battles and in the way the Ghost maneuvers around (in an obviously Falcon-inspired way). The sound design through that whole sequence was really well done, and even better than anything I remember from TCW.
And the final showdown with the Inquisitor was surprisingly intense too. Loved the "holy shit" moment when Ezra picks up Kanan's lightsaber and almost immediately has it force-pulled out of his hands.
And it was also kinda cool seeing an old prequel-era Troop Transport in the wreckage of the hangar.

Wow, a lot to digest there. Love the idea of a post-ROTJ sequel-era series, but kind of disappointed to hear about Rebels being cut short so early (especially since TCW managed to fit 5-6 seasons worth of stories into a 3 year period of time).
And I don't see why Rebels couldn't end with Kanan and Ezra sacrificing themselves in some big, dramatic way. We've already seen signs that the show can get fairly dark when it needs to.
Yeah I'd be disappointed if Rebels only ran 52 episodes. I wanted more of a journey. But I am really excited about a post-ROTJ series ESPECIALLY if it stars Han Luke and Leia.
