What would you use the holodeck for?

I don't see why it has to be an either/or situation. Yes, I would definitely use it for sexual purposes...but that doesn't mean I'd only be using holo-partners. You could use the holodeck to have sex with your real flesh-and-blood partner in all kinds of places you couldn't otherwise visit. If you always wanted to "do it outside" but were shy? Perfect.

That's a point. And you could do it with your real life partner in a threesome with a holo character...

Having said that, lots of people walking around on the same deck as the holodeck seemed to have smiles on their face...

Which leads to an even more important question:

Who cleans up the holodeck?

It's a galaxy of teleporters and replicators. I don't think they even use toilets anymore.

The enlightened humans of the 24th century would never use the holodeck for that sort of uncivilized use. Or so we were led to believe in TNG seasons 1 & 2.

That's kind of ironic seeing as how Gene Roddenberry was an unrepentant horn dog who would cheerfully shag any woman who was not legally his grandmother. If Gene had access to a holodeck, he'd never come out.

Wow, though questions. I am sure I would use it every now and again to play out a few sexual fantasies, after all I am only human.

But more than that I'd be interested to recreate fictional places, like Lothlorien or King's Landing and shape them to be exactly as I had imagined them, same with fictional characters.
On that topic, imagine the epic LARP campaigns that can be had in the holodec! I can especially imagine Data getting into it XD.

Here's an idea. Use it with a flesh and blood partner, only each gets to set the visual filters on the other.

Also, you could explore different oxygen levels. Program the computer to gradually reduce the oxygen concentration, then have it monitor your vitals and if anything seems wrong, set oxygen back to normal.

I'd use it first and foremost for exercise - running on a beach. Second, target practice. It would be fun to go in, set up a shooting range, and have at it with a phaser. Would be easy to trace your shots because it's a beam. I'd also use the holodeck to play football.

As to the poll question, I don't see why not - I mean there's no reason why I wouldn't. It would depend upon privacy, though. This might be one reason why some people are quick to avoid relationships and so on in the show - the holodeck is available for those purposes. There's not only Riker's comment in "The Perfect Mate" that was revealing along these lines, there was also Minuet, I think.

Holodecks would be kind of like the uber gaming experience, in that way. Almost like a Choose Your Own Adventure book (fitting, since RA Montgomery just recently passed away), in live action. A movie, starring...you. That's how I would use one, at least.

I think if there were holodecks, they would be immensely fun and popular, but at the same time, I am not sure how a lot of people would ever get anything done in real life.

As for using them for porn, especially programming someone you know to be in there (and especially without their knowledge), umm, kinda creepy, when you think about it. But the unfortunate reality is that you know there would be a huge market for it, too.

Imagine simulating your favourite movies and TV shows. Forget 3D, try immersive 3D! You could even interfere in the plot and see what happens, or just be silly. You could program the characters to do their best to ignore you and go on with business as usual, then keep poking them during crucial scenes. You could slap the characters who annoy you.
