American Horror Story (Season 4): Freak Show

Lily Rabe has been a longtime regular on the show, and I would love to see her again.

The conclusion to the two-parter Halloween episode was quite dramatic. It would appear that many of the carnies had a dark past, especially Elsa Mars (whose legs were cut off while working as an entertainer of sorts at a freakish sex club in Germany in the 1930s) and Twisty the Clown. Alas, poor Twisty! He wasn't a homicidal freak to begin with. I was surprised they killed him off too soon. But I guess that was done to pave the way for Dandy to be next killer clown.

This was the best episode so far. Twisty was an evil fuck but with his backstory I felt for the guy. Those "dwarves" were evil bastards. It doesn't excuse Twisty but it does make me feel somewhat sad for him. Dandy is just fucking nuts.

What happened to Elsa was just sick, sick.

Elsa's newly-revealed backstory makes that scene in Episode 2, where she watched the homemade "blue movie" involving the drugged waitress and the freaks, all the creepier.

Guess we know where she got that idea . . ..

At least the watchers didnt have to listen to Elsa sing, they might have cut off her tongue. Sad to see Twisty meet his fate but I am sure Twisty 2 will up the body count.

That was pretty wild. That guy sitting on the toilet made me squirm!

So now Dandy has no prisoners left, he's killed the maid, and what will Mumsie do??

Is the town really going to embrace the show, or is this a set-up for more? Whatsisname said "people were going to pay" for Meep's death.

Wow. That was a rather sexy and twisted episode.

Dell Toledo had a boytoy lover (Matt Bomer) who just got butchered by Dandy. Finn Wittrock is such a hunk, by the way. ;) Mrs. Mott described his psychotic nature as an affliction of the wealthy, resulting from generations of inbreeding. She immediately knew Dandy murdered the maid and even helped cover it up.

It was also revealed that Desiree was a fullblown woman who just happened to have different anatomy, but I always thought that had been the case all along. The doctor just described her condition as having too much estrogen that manifested in the third breast.

Next week's episode looks interesting. There's schism among the carnies, and I wonder how that's going to unfold in the coming weeks.

Finally the show is getting more interesting to me. This episode and last week's episodes have been really good. The season is finding it's groove now. Finn Wittrock is killing it as Dandy. He's even more twisted than Twisty.

After having watched last night's episode, I hate to say this, but this season is not one of the best. The story is lacking in depth and direction, and the characters aren't that interesting, except for Dandy. Gone are the supernatural mystery and intrigue of Murder House, the wit and power struggle in Coven, and strong villain(s) of Asylum.

Elsa is losing the grasp on her once big happy carnie family and feels betrayed, especially by the twin's departure and by Paul's infidelity. The usual troublemaker, Dell Toledo, is nowhere to be seen. Stanley is an annoying villain at best. Dandy is the only compelling character on the show right now.

It's worth noting, however, that Elsa was in fact responsible for the twins' "departure," since she's the one who drove them out to the mansion under false pretenses and essentially sold them to Dandy's mother. And then lied about it to the other freaks.

So, despite all her tears and tantrums about being "betrayed,: Paul was absolutely right not to trust her--and got a knife in the gut for his pains. And she clearly did not hit him with that knife "accidentally." She wanted him dead . . ..

Definitely the weakest season so far but still I'm enjoying especially the last 3 episodes. Dandy of course is the best part of the season. They should bring Finn Wittrock back next season because he's really good.

I had completely forgotten that Elsa dropped the twins off at the Motts. It just goes to show how forgettable each episode of this season has been. ;)

Yeah, the whole story Elsa spun to the rest of the freaks, about how the twins absconded on her while they were out shopping was total bullshit, but, boy, did Lange sell that whole "betrayed" rant as though she was indeed the injured party . ..

Ma Petite. :( Damn you, Dell. How could you allow a scrawny scumbag to blackmail you and coerce you into killing one of your kind? You could snap him like a twig. Now that Ma is gone too, the carnies are coming after you for sure when they find out. At least you had some heart to heart father-son chat with Jimmy.

Hail Nirvana! Evan Peters has got a cool set of pipes. His singing is much better than Ms. Lange's.

Bette and Dot's presence continues to stir things up. They sided with Elsa even after it was revealed that they didn't really "run away" as Elsa previously stated. Then of course, each twin had something else in mind that could pay off for them.

He was probably autotuned to hell and back and Elsa not being the greatest singer is clearly a plot point, that's why she always looks like Pissy McStinkface when someone else sings and is better than her.

After Ma Petite's fake out murder last week I thought that she'd be safe throughout the rest of the season so it shocked me she was murdered this week. Can't wait to see Dell get his. Also Penny's father for disfiguring her like that. It was one of the worst things I've seen anyone do on AHS.

We've got two more deaths from last night's episode. :( I was sorry to see Kathy Bates' character (Ethel) get murdered by Elsa, but Elsa was wrongfully accused by the former of killing Ma Petite. And Ethel would've shot her if she didn't act fast.

I feel Frances Conroy's character (Mrs. Mott) didn't really have much of a role this season besides trying to protect or please her son Dandy, who ended up murdering her in the end.

It was fun to see two of the Season 3 supporting cast (Gabourey Sidibe and Danny Huston).

Dandy takes a bath in his mother's blood. Nice.

I was hoping the ladies were going to kill the dad, there. He deserved it.
