Enterprise Season 5 - The Writers' Room

Inspired by a brief exchange in the Voyager forum:

If T'Pol had got her own ship in ENT s5 (battling the Romulans) she would've been pretty awesome too

Season 5 ENT would have been pretty awesome all round, Shran as a main character!

This has been addressed before, but what the hell, let's go again!


First thing we can all agree on - TATV did not happen. So we start with a new finale for Season 4:

A mysterious attack on the Vulcan/Klingon border turns out to be the start of a Romulan imperial expansion. The foundation ceremony for the Coalition of Planets turns into a war meeting, and at the end of the episode, the Enterprise heads out as an advance scout to find the invaders.
However, T'Pol is not on board - Vulcan High Command has determined she will be of more value commanding a Vulcan ship in the new joint force (where her relationship with Archer will be of strategic value).

What happens next?

Heading into another war, what does Archer resolve to do differently? How does Trip feel about T'Pol leaving? Is T'Pol now a recurring character, or do we also follow her on her new ship? Is Shran on Enterprise as an observer, or does he have his own ship? (why not both!) Is Reed happy to be issued with more and bigger guns? Does Travis grow a beard? Will Hoshi perfect her soup recipe?

Season five should have been dedicated entirely to Hoshi cooking, Phlox servicing his many wives and Travis doing what he did best... being mesmerized by everything. He could have done a panty raid on Draylax... put his third hand experience in action. More sex. Too much war on this show and needin more lovin.

I like Shran as T'Pol's replacement as XO... if indeed T'Pol got her own Vulcan command. Seems unlikely given her relationship with Vulcan officials. I like her in command of the NX-03 or NX-04 instead.

Season 3 should have been the Romulan War, instead of the Xindi war. They could have gone ahead 3-4 years in the timeline to take care of the time jump.

I loved Enterprise but it needed to be more weird. I wish it had been a bit more like Twin Peaks.

My ideal S5:

- Archer is promoted to Admiral and downgraded to a recurring character
- Shran is given command of the Enterprise
- T'Pol is given a season-long character arc centered around her discovering and coming to terms with her Romulan heritage (also, her father is still alive, and is a high-echelon member of Tal Shiar). Also, the angsty season 3&4 T'Pol is gone, and she is back to being a stoic, self confident science officer.
- Travis finally get's "Jadziad", and Anthonly Montwhatshisname is replaced by someone with actual screen presence
- Reed goes on Section 31 adventures and graduates to full-badass. And occasionally takes Hoshi with him.
