It sounds to me like you're thinking more of the way movies shoot, TV shows tend to work a lot faster than you seem to be thinking.

Although I did realize one thing since my last post, most of the shows that tend to focus heavily on kids played by kids are only half an hour. I guess the limit on working with kids does probably have a lot to do with it.

I think Guy only refered to New York State's laws on restrictions for child actors, since Gotham is filmed in NY and those laws apply to the kids playing Bruce and Selina. Probably California, Vancouver, etc. have differing restrictions on child actors.

Gotham is not the first show to be filmed in New York starring child actors.

Kids so far only appear in 5 minutes per episode ≠ impossible to film more than 5 minutes per episode.

It's also possible the scenes with the child actors are in blocked so over the space of a couple of days they might film for several eps with a 2nd unit while the first unit does the work with the adult actors.

Most shows are easier to shoot than Gotham.

Some shows are hella easier to shoot than Gotham.

    One Camera.

4 or 5 usable sets on one sound stage.

Small main cast and almost no extras.

Low standards from the director and no expectations from the producer.

    :)

I watched both seasons of Every Witch Way recently.

Nickelodeon action adventure sitcom about a teenage witch made for preteens.

    This fucker airs daily.

20 new episodes in 20 days.

Which they have done twice this year so far (40 new episodes in one year.), and a third season has been confirmed for early next year.

It's not impossible to pump out the product despite having a cast of children, but the product can tend to be quite embarrassingly fast and cheap.

    Gotham is premium.

So you've shifted from it being legally possible to it being a quality issue? Yeah, keep moving that goal post.

Can't believe this conversation is still happening. Who gives a shit?

Start a new thread if you really need to discuss kids filming schedules that badly.

I just got caught back up on Gotham. Watched the last two episodes.
Spirit of the Goat I thought was pretty good in that the true bad guy was the Psychiatrist.

The Penguin's Umbrealla and the reveal with Falcone was great but the episode had two things that made it cliche and nonsensical. Stupid Blonde bimbo Barbara Keen not just staying away. Her thick headedness is literally painful to watch. Then there was the pointless use of Catwoman sliding into Wayne manor and taking something.
The first is Barbara being cast into the damsel in distress role that was not needed. It foiled Gordon's well laid plans. The latter served no story purpose. It was just the producers flashing a neon sign at you again "CATWOMAN, CATWOMAN".

It's interesting that the show is revealing who Batman always defeats his enemies. They are all twenty years older than he is... slow and weak.

Still. I'm enjoying it for what the show is.

A small part of me hopes that by the end of the series, Bruce doesn't become Batman... Sort of like in Inglorious Basterds,
    Tarantino has them kill Hitler.

It's legally impossible for Gotham to shoot more than 5 minutes with each kid because they are making a high quality product. If they did a found footage episode where it's just a handicam following Bruce and Selina around, they could probably do the full 40 minutes, but how likely is that?

If Gotham went the Barney Miller route and NEVER (I haven't seen the show in 20 years.)left the Station house, they could definitely get more than 5 minutes, because they are not dragging the film crew from one side of he city to the other.

The goal posts were placed where they are by the producer during preproducton of the series, but every different show, with ever different producer puts their goal posts mostly at a differnt possition, where they feel most comfortable to create the product they beleive that they can get away with.

Space Above and Beyond cost 5 million dollars per episode to make, Stargate SG1 cost $750,000 per episode to make. Guess which one of these series lasted 10 years?

Their goal posts were in completly different places!

Are we sure that shooting lasts a week per epiosde?

And how long is a "working" week?

    5 days or 7 days?

Give me a number? What to you think the physical limit is that Bruno is pushing against while maintaining his personal standards?

    10 minutes? 15? 30?

I am officially done with Barbara. What an emotional weakling. Boo hoo, Jim can't give you attention 24/7 while you smoke weed and drink all day. What a child. Let the affair with Essen begin.

I'm seriously liking the Alfred/Bruce dynamic.

Thought tonight had a great Bruce story, the villain of the week was just ok. The lame mask he wore brought no sense of menace to the character. Bullock, Penguin, Alfred all very good this week and even Fish was ok. Of course having a secret meeting in a church in one scene and then just walking into the nightclub at the end was poor writing. I guess Falcone had his eyes closed.
