The Walking Dead Season 5

Did anyone watch Talking Dead? Was Gimple saying that the guy they freed from the cargo container (that got eaten immediately) was the same guy who put back Mary and grabbed another woman out of the container in the flashback at the end?

Yes.

I just watched it again and now I see the facial tattoos are the same. He's kind of in shadows in the flashback but they're there.

It wasn't very obvious, no. When he came out looking all grizzled, I was like, "Who is this guy? Surely he must be someone we know." But it wasn't all that clear. Especially since the other scenes of him, he's shown in the darkness.

It's kind of like the thing with the hippie Sam. That may not have been apparent to many viewers what the connection there was.

I think the producers of the show know that some fans like subtle clues rather than big ones - and some people will go through the episodes almost frame-by-frame to find them and share their findings in forums like this which in-turn generates more views of the episodes and hence ratings.

I didn't personally get the flash back scene at first quite frankly.

Good point about Mullet Man. The jury's still out on him imo. If it is the truth, we'll find out soon enough though.

My sense is knows absolutely nothing. All the scientific babble about bio warfare strikes me as he's a want to be scientist - knows some buzz words - but really has no idea about a cure. I mean seriously, the cure is classified for for what good reason?

Regarding this episode - outstanding start of the season. One thing I don't get is why Tyreese is all of a sudden squeamish about even killing walkers? His gentle giant routine seems a bit off considering what they've been through.

Also, how did Mary escape from the walkers or did I miss something?
Probably. That's a good guess. He seems to try to walk the walk, but he's probably just full of bluster. He wants to survive... so of course he'll try to act like someone who knows something. That gives him a chance to not be killed.

Another good point. Wonder what caused him to change his mind in regards to that, or if it was a screw up character wise?

I keep waiting for someone to throw that "classified" bit back in his face.

"classified!?! Classified from who? Are you worried the walkers will find out what you're planning? Think the russians or Chinese might be lurking around to beat us to a cure? Well fucking let them! At least someone will survive this shit!"

That's true, but I think there are better ways of executing that. They did a really good job of that last season with Lizzie, Terminus Mary, and the woman in the paintings. It's a very subtle thing that is great to have in the backdrop. Same thing with Sam in this episode.

But the scene with grizzled man isn't really that. It's an apparent event in the show that doesn't make sense without that clarification. I think that's just a result of a mistake on the part of direction or writing, although admittedly a pretty minor one.

I thought this episode was really great overall. I think I do need a rewatch though.

Me too. Come on folks! Challenge this guy. Take him on so we can find out what the heck is going on!

Surely there has to be a name for the trope where there's a character that knows everything (or seemingly so) that nobody really bothers to ask questions. Lost was probably the king of this.

I hope his little speech there wasn't the only rationale they needed to go to D.C. We need Rick to be asking some hard questions.

A more believable answer would be that he wants to get rich to cure the zombie virus - kind of like when Zephrn Cochran explains to Riker why he created warp drive in a post apocalyptic world - it's all about personal fulfillment not altruism.

How do you "get rich" when you're living in a situation where you can just take what you want anyways?

Whether he's lying or not it's a reason for stronger people to protect some shlub, isn't it?

In a ZA world - I'd think certain foods and drinks are more scarce. The scarcity we face to get rich would be much different in such a society.

Also the oldest profession - prostitution - I'd also think in this world would be something some men covet.

Haven't seen that episode since it first aired so I can hardly remember what he looked like, therefore didn't make the connection at all when I watched the ep today. Only just found that out now, ha so thanks for that :)

This goes back to the season 4 debut, where he told Karen that he does not like fence duty. Its only when pushed (ex. the car surrounded by walkers, attack by the Governor, etc.) that he uses lethal force. He likely has some sort of rage issue he's trying to suppress, for fear that it could get out of control.

I don't find it to be a completely implausible elephant to be in the room. The group is holding on by a thread, & so long as they can work together amicably, & keep on keeping on, then there's actually a logical reason to back down from being overly challenging on people's little idiosyncrasies.

I don't think anything he said there is being taken as gospel (By anyone but Abe). It was however, not the time to get into it & divide the group. His little statement about how even after drawing out a recipe or map or whatever, they'd still need him alive, was enough to put it on the back burner for now.

It'll certainly come out, & that they are in these life of death scenarios is enough of a reason why they leave it alone for now. It's marginally satisfying to me anyhow. They can't afford to alienate these seemingly good people right now

My one completely arbitrary & pointless gripe of the episode is this:

Carol: We're friends of the chick with the sword & the kid in the hat

So apparently you're familiar with it. So then why the hell didn't you take 12 seconds & pick out the sword when you grabbed the crossbow? It couldn't have been far & it sticks out like a ruby in a pile of glass. That's just mean. Carol's mean now.

& before anyone climbs down my throat, you all know you were thinking about it too. Don't deny it :guffaw:I'm surprised it didn't get brought up on Talking Dead

I forgot about that, thanks - and that's a reasonable explanation about his odd personality when it comes to turning on and off the violent behavior.
