I think what's "off" is the setting is wrong.

It's Kate's rather.. twee? decor that seems to be frozen in time whenever you see at home pics. Into that you drop RED. Oddness ensues. There's a pic of her in her RED hair on the same old couch with those same old pillows with all the words embroidered on them and it's particularly clashy

If past lives are true she sure drops clues about where she was or whom she was influenced by. It's a theme in there . Some people collect Star Trek memorabilia and she---Victorian/pastoral err or something. Borderline hordes...surely you've seen her LA home. Packed with nice furniture :-). No judgments;Just observing.
I do like that she lets people see her home even if we disagree on tastes. I am okay with the shoot location even if it's off because we se her world. Since NY is her soul according to her. There are plenty of on set stuff for the full effect so that's how I see it.
