As I understand it, Moranis made a *lot* of money off of the "Honey I..." movies. Enough that he was able to essentially retire and spend time with his family. I would argue that constitutes *good* decision making. I know if I could do what amounts to a few months work and never have to work again, I'd jump all over that. Bugger if the movies were good or not!

He also retired because his wife was dying. So. Yeah, make buckets of money, never have to work again, to spend that time with your wife who is dying, be there for your kids...

It's VERY good decision making for him.

Internet posters facility for debating semantics never ceases to amaze me.

Moranis might have made buckets of money. That's not what the discussion was about. It was in regards to earlier posters negative perspective on his work. In that, for a potentially prolonged career, he made bad decisions. I'm sure the Wayans are also filthy rich, but you'll never seem them listed among A listers.

You seem to be under the impression I disapprove of him making money and quitting to spend time with his family. In that, you couldn't be more wrong, or presumptuous.

I don't believe the "Honey..." movies show a sign of bad decision making. They are great family films, the second one was a bit schmaltzy but still decent, I can't comment on the third one as I haven't seen it. No, those were fine, now movies like "Big Bully" and "Little Giants," well that is bad decision making.

Hollywood is only doing what they do best here -- trying to replicate past success (in this case, Bridesmaids and, of course, Ghostbusters). They're not trying to push a social agenda.

Having said that, thank goodness the studios are willing to make at least one tent pole movie that isn't entirely male dominated.

The run for the hills attitudes on display by many here -- because a Hollywood studio has the gumption to spend $100 million on a movie with female leads -- is beyond ridiculous. It's not like there's a shortage of entertainment pandering to men out there.

Yeah, Bridesmaids is one of the few comedies I've seen in quite some time that I can watch again and again. Saying it's a female Hangover does disservice to it.

You assume he wanted a prolonged career. His goals for how HE wants to live his life don't in anyway have to match up with what YOU think his goals should be.

He walked away. His wife was dying. He wanted to be close to his family. He makes his music. He seems very happy in interviews he's done lately.

I don't think I'm the only one being presumptuous.

I'd like to add Xena in there, if we're allowed to go down the TV route. But Xena definitely was a franchise name for sure, and was much more popular than the show that spawned it.

Frozen is not a franchise. Not yet anyway. And how many men here loved that Movie?
Twilight targets tween girls.

Terminator? From number 2 onwards Arnold was the star.
Tomb Raider is a far more successful game than movie franchise. Alien, yes I agree.

So then the both of you disagree that these films aren't targeting female audiences? The 51 percent of cinema audiences. Do you also think Michael Bay setting parts of Transformers 4 in China has nothing to do with pandering to an audience? I'm not saying that Pander = failure. If you can get your heads around that.

You said successful. You also said none. You even added a prerequisite that it be the 21st century. I proved that you were wrong on all counts. In short, your insecurity is unfounded.

As for Frozen, I loved that movie, and I'm definitely male.

So you're saying a movie's success is measured only by how many men like it? Wow. Learn something new every day!

Incidentally, I liked Frozen just fine. One of the better animated Disney films in a while.

So how many writers/scripts has this project even gone through? I've lost count. The only news that ever seems to come out is either:
a) a new writer is announced
b) Dan speculates that something is "happening."

However much of a reboot it ends up being, it will be a soft reboot as I believe Sony wants to be able to tie the legacy to the previous two films.

I don't see how making this with an all female cast as being fresh and original. Same goes for taking any other successful franchise and replacing the well known male character with a female (except for Doctor Who if they ever did that because it's part of the character). Would Frozen still work if Anna was a guy? Is that a fresh and original take on something?

The first one was cute for families ya. I remember watching one of the squeals were he made his kid huge. Not sure whether that was 2nd or 3rd. It wasn't very good. It's like Beethoven movies, I thought the 1st one was cute for families. But you can't tell me sticking with that franchise throughout its run would be a smart decision for an actor career wise.

The Olsen twins are mega successful in business terms. But acting wise they are not successful.

Moranis held on to the "Honey..." franchise 2 too many. That was what I meant by saying decision making.

It's not bad decision making if he was only interested in it for the money, but I think it was more than that. I think it was a franchise that he enjoyed being a part of. He could have passed on the third one, especially when it was revealed that it'd be a video premiere only, but he did it because he enjoyed doing it.
