Mark Altman Describes the Path

The article has too much trekkie-style logic to it.

He admits to the anemic sales for TNG (it's not streaming well, either) but suggests Star Trek is still viable as a tv series.

I doubt that's what CBS are thinking these days.

I was thinking about a comment on another thread-that if you bring in a new team, they will want to put their own stamp on the series. The JJ Klingons come to mind, as an example. If you were to bring in a new team for a new series, I imagine they would put their particular stamp on it, creating a product somewhat different from either Prime or JJ.
That's the way it's always been with Trek.

I read this earlier and it was clearly arrant fannish nonsense; I didn't notice then that Mark had written it.

I've surprised myself by accepting that the Prime Universe is done. On the bright side, nuTrek is still respected by the bean counters and remains in process as a series of big budget movies.

With the flopping of TNG, nuTrek is now officially our last and only hope for a series. I know that rankles a few, but it doesn't alter the fact that it's true.

Anyway, my fingers will remain crossed.

I too accept that the Prime universe is done. But that's okay; at least the J.J. movies indicate that the Powers That Be are willing to consider other options.

I'm mulling all these possibilities in my head and balancing them and analyzing them and wondering what the repercussions to Star Trek are and you know what?

FUCK ALL THAT.

I want Star Trek to LIVE.

If that means I have to get used to a different style, then you know what? BRING IT ON.

TOS, TNG and DS9 are all very different from one another in a lot of ways and I've enjoyed all 3 immensely. I also enjoyed the few Voyager and Enterprise episodes I saw. I also enjoyed TAS. And I'm also greatly enjoying JJ's movies.

We're all going to be apprehensive, defensive and whiney at first, but I want to see it continue and be successful.
