Spock Prime is indirectly responsible for part of Khan's actions

Cadet49

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I was just watching Into Darkness again, and found Spock Prime's comment to nuSpock that he "took a vow to never interfere in this new timeline" ironic, because he was the one in Star Trek XI who used his futuristic scientific knowledge to help nuScotty perfect the engineer's failed transwarp beaming formula, a project Scotty had abandoned because of what had happened to Admiral Archer's prize beagle and Scotty's punishment by assignment to delta Vega...

The formula may have never been revisited by nuScotty, but since it now worked, due to Spock Prime's interference, the formula was apparently confiscated by Starfleet for further studies. We saw the disastrous results of that decision in Into Darkness. As Scotty says to Kirk in a scene from Into Darkness:

Kirk: "What was the first straw?"
Scotty: "What was the...? There are plenty of straws! How about Starfleet confiscating my transwarp equation? And now some madman is using it to hop a cross the galaxy. Where do you think he got it from?"

Well, in an offhanded, indirect way, that "madman" got it because of Spock Prime. That transwarp equation may never have been perfected if Spock Prime had not helped nuScotty make it work. Section 31 used that formula to create a portable transwarp device, which Khan stole during his London attack.

Khan also used that device to escape to the Klingon homeworld after his attack on Starfleet headquarters. His escape would have been much more difficult if Spock Prime had never helped nuScotty perfect his transwarp beaming formula.

Actually, according to the sequel/prequel comic to Into Darkness, called "Khan", Section 31 and "Harrison" actually used the portable transwarp device before Into Darkness
during a covert operation on the Klingon moon Praxis.
That also would have been more challenging to carry out without the Spock-Prime/nuScotty transwarp beaming formula...

Spock Prime may have taken a vow not to interfere, but he did indeed interfere in a way in Star Trek 2009 that had a major impact on Khan's actions in Into Darkness.

I like how Spock breaks his vow the very first time someone asks him to. :)

Well in defense of the Spocks, it wasn't the very first (highly probable) life-or-death mission that Spock faced. He waited that long to ask Spock Prime for advice that would require the latter breaking his vow. And Khan Noonien Singh was active in the heart of Federation space years before he was in the prime reality.

To be fair it was after his younger self asked him about the guy who not only damn neared killed the crew of the Enterprise twice but actually managed indirectly to kill him in a rather slow and painful maner.

Erm... without the transwarp formula, Nero would have destroyed Earth, continued his plan to destroy the entire Federation one world at a time, and things would have been much worse.

Then Spock should really break his vow for a few other big events. Hopefully he's still around to tell them about the big log that just wants to talk to some whales. That'll save some time and trouble. :)

He should probably just cut off all contact with the outside world and live in a cave on New Vulcan if he's really serious about not breaking the Temporal Prime Directive.

Instead, he's helping to rebuild Vulcan civilization. Surely that will involve cheat codes from the future.

Of course, had Spock Prime not helped out by giving out the transwarp equations, Nero would have destroyed Earth killing billions. Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

As I always word it, "I have sworn a solemn vow never to tell you of the future. But since you're asking, I'll make an exception, just this once."

Like so? :p

Spock: Anyways, while I'm here I might as well tell you guys about all the stuff that's gonna happen that you can prevent. Hope you got a pen and paper. Right. Don't go near the edge of the galaxy, seriously it'll screw stuff up. McCoy's ex-girlfriend is in fact a salt vampire, watch out for that. Leave Charlie X back on the planet, it'll save time. Balock is in fact a creature testing you, don't worry about it, he's nice. Harry mudd is giving women beauty drugs, make sure you actually lock him up properly, or he'll be back. Don't use the transporter on the planet Alpha 177 take a shuttle, bring McCoy, saves time worrying about injuries. Nurse chapel's boyfriend is a robot. Only the children are immune to the disease. The inmates have taken over the asylum. The psi 2000 disease is caused by water intoxication. Make sure captain pike doesn't get got by delta radiation. Karidian is kodos and his daughter is a killer. The romulans look like vulcans and they have a cloaking device. The planet on omicron delta is a amusement park. Don't send a shuttle to Murasaki 312. Trelane is a child. Don't kill the gorn, it's a test by the metrons. Careful round black stars. Ben finney will go crazy if he doesn't get a promotion, just saying. Landru is a computer, destroy it. Don't beam on the botany bay, it contains left over augments. Destroy the disintergration booths. Anger gets rid of the spores. The horta is trying to protect it's babies. The organians are non-corporeal. Lazarus is from another dimension. Make sure you are careful with cordozine. The creatures on Deneva can be killed by ultraviolet radiation. Tell T'Pau to deal with it and get down to business. The temple is the source of Apollo's power. Trick Nomad and the M-5 with logical puzzles, never fails. There's a mirror universe where everyone is evil, if you don't want to go there, don't beam through a ion storm. Vaal is a computer, fire phasers at it. There is a giant doomsday machine that eats planets, just put a starship and set a warp core explosion. You'll need to pilot it into the machine's maw. Get the transmuter. Zefram Cochrane is still alive, he's on Gamma Canaris N. Thelev is a orion, Sarek will need a heart operation... Tell you what, I'll write it down for you.
