Not the biggest fan of pancakes, but when I do eat them it's with butter and real maple syrup.
pancakes filled and topped with sweetened cottage cheese, cream, eggs, a hint of vanilla and (if you like rum-soaked) raisins, braised in the oven. An Austrian recipe. Yummy stuff with a gazillion calories =)
Don't buy a mix. Mixes are most of the time a rip-off:
American pancakes consist only of flour, eggs, milk and sugar, baking powder / soda and a pinch of vanilla if you like.
The mix consists of flour, baking powder and artificial flavour.
If you make pancakes from scratch it takes barely 2 minutes longer than the mix but you can make 10 times as many pancakes for the same money!
But making German pancakes is even more fun because ours are larger and not fluffy but rather thin and elastic. You turn them by letting them do a summersault a few inches above the pan. A flick of the wrist, a solid cast-iron pan and plenty of butter are all that's needed. Just the thing to show off
