Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Discussion

This is where I shamelessly plug the first official SLEEPY HOLLOW novel, "Children of the Revolution," by our own Keith DeCandido.

And, yes, that was a very fun, fast-paced episode. I admit I laughed out loud at the shirtless beefcake shot of the Headless Horseman!
I meant to mention that. That was awesome. :rommie:

I also love how they work early American history into the episodes, like using Franklin's infamous key and alphabet as story elements. And this was a nice portrayal of Franklin. I was initially amused at Ichabod's disdain for Franklin, but then I remembered they did something similar with Jefferson. I hope they don't have him hating all the Founding Fathers but Washington.

Clearly we need a Sleepy Hollow/TURN crossover . . ..
I need to give that another try. The first episode didn't impress me, which is unfortunate because I love that era. And, speaking of plugs, my second short-story collection, Eidolic Highway, features a story about the first American superhero during the Revolution (the ebook is only 99 cents ;)).

That was a pretty good premier. I do agree that Ichabod's escape from the coffin was pretty ridiculous, but other that that I enjoyed it. The stuff was Benjamin Franklin was fun, and I was glad to see them get Ichabod and Abby back together quickly.

Was his escape from the coffin ridiculous, or not ridiculous enough? I say the latter.

"Even death may die." And so, Lovecraft enters the Sleepy Hollow mythology.

This show is relentlessly fun.

Yeah, I knew I recognized that incantation from somewhere -- took me a few moments to remember it was Lovecraftian. Nice in-joke.

And seriously -- Benjamin Franklinstein? They just keep getting crazier and crazier.

How come Irving didn't recognize Henry Parish's name or face? Didn't Crane and Abbie brief him on the guy? If not, why not?

I do not like the use of psychiatric treatments as a threat against Irving, as if they were a form of torture. That just perpetuates a very harmful stigma against mental health treatment.

Alas, poor Katrina was within Ichabod's grasp, but she decided to remain captive in the hands of Henry and the Horseman to find out more about their plans for unleashing Moloch into this world. The Kindred was a badass creature; it's good to have a monster on Ichabod and Abbie's side.

And how is it that Captain Irving does not know Henry? I could've sworn the two had met before.

Yeah, I was shocked that Irving didn't know Henry/Jeremy either. I was thinking the same thing you guys were.
I really enjoyed this episode. I was glad to see Irving back, although I am disapointed he's not the boss anymore.
I'm kind of frustrated by the new boss. I really liked that Irving was more open to what was going on even before he got fully involved, and allowed Ichabod and Abby to do their thing. Now we have the more stereotypical boss who doesn't believe them and gets in the way.
I'm assuming the Kindred will pop back up at some point.
I'm also glad they already did the big rescue for Katrina and had her decide to stay where she was. We already had a season that focused a lot on rescuing her, I'm glad we appear to be moving on from that.
I wonder if they'll find some way to stay in contact with her, so she can give them whatever information she gathers from Henry and Abraham?

Could've done without the new sheriff plot forced plot point, but if Noble can work his way relevantly into the storyline, I'm all for it.

Give it an enjoyable B+, long as Fox doesn't become ABC.

I'm not sure I'm going to like the new sheriff plot line.
I always hate it when a show puts a family/boss in the way of the story line.

Same here.
The same thing happened on Castle when Cassidy Yates showed up.
It's unnecessary.

I agree. The sheriff is an unnecessary complication. I hope something happens to resolve this quickly, whether she's killed or brought into the fold.

Franklinstein's Monster. Man, they've been peeking into my idea notebook. :rommie:

I assumed she was going to be someone working for the dark side and that was why she was threatening Captain Irving with electro shock and lobotomy.

I disagree about the new sherif being an unnecessary complication. The characters have been getting away with doing what ever they want. That wouldn't happen in real life. She adds normalcy back to the show. She's a hard-ass by the book sheriff and to me refreshing. Most fantasy shows like this, when all
the characters buy into what ever the premis is, removes it even further from being somewhat grounded. You need her to reinforce that this wackiness is happening in a fairly normal situation.

One thing that did bother me, they have morning role call. Crane meets Abby just after and they decide to goto Dobbs. They get to Dobbs Ferry and it's dark. Dobbs Ferry is literally 15 minutes away, so unless they took an extensive detour they should have been there in no time.

Oh, I didn't say it wasn't realistic. But in terms of the format of the show-- which, to me, is the dynamic of Abby and Ichabod interacting in the context of the coming Apocalypse-- it's superfluous and irritating. The new sheriff is a sidebar, unless she is somehow tied in to that main plotline. Otherwise they are fighting two simultaneous wars, one of which is tedious and boring.
