William Shatner wanted Star Trek 2009 to focus on him.

And this is the real reason why I do not want him to return at all.

I am just glad JJ made the right decision by refusing such nonsense request from shatner. Imagine if JJ had given in to shatner and the whole film was about him. we will never have gotten the excellent and now classic star trek 2009.

Orci seems weak in character and he is not experienced so that means he may give into any shatner request like hugging all the spotlight for star trek 3 which will be disastrous in my personal opinion.

This is another reason why I jope JJ takes his producer role very seriously and does not just put his name on it. a producer still calls the shot on the cast and script and I hope JJ sticks to not given shatner the spotlight.

Shatner has had his time. 79 episode and 6 films is more than enough. Pine Saldana, Urban and Quinto are no where close to that.

I love this new cast dearly and I want trek 3 to be all about them and them alone. It was bad enough that they were stuck with a wrath of khan remake in STID and now this...not happy.

Star Trek 3 should be their film, their time, their space, their moment...their last moment for all we know as most of the cast may want to move on after the trilogy.

It is not fair for someone from the past like Shatner who has had his time and whose character is suppose to be DEAD to steal their thunder. Its irritating.:scream:

Now I know what shatner wanted for trek 2009. I do not want to see him in trek 3 at all. I will read spoilers and if I discover Shatner becomes a centric character forv trek 3, I would not see the film because I think it is unfair and disrespectful to the new cast.

I would have preferred that 2009 and Into Darkness didn't have Nimoy, and hadn't felt the need to pull in any former cast members.

You do realize that Orci isn't the only one in the decision making circle? He'll make the movie Paramount and Bad Robot want him to make.

Nimoy worked in trek 2009. his cameo in stid was unnecessary but still okay.

Nimoy is also a man of class and knows when to take a sit and let others shine. Shatner is just too much of a narcissistic. He has had his time. this is chris pine's time now.

A lot of stuff Shatner says or that others claim he said should not be taken seriously, he's always a bit of a joker. Singing happy birthday to Spock sounds like one of those times. He's said himself that what was offered him was a cameo, and he wasn't interested. What Nimoy got in 2009 was a bit more than a cameo, which usually means only one short scene. Nimoy's appearance in Into Darkness was definitely a cameo.

the excellent and now classic star trek 2009.

Er, O.K., if you say so...
I do veiw star trek 2009 as a classic now. I hope this gives

SFX best sci fi film of the decade

MSN 100 greatest films of all time

AFIs top film of 2009

4 Oscar nominations.

Top 5 highest rated scifi film of the last decade by Rotten Tomatoes.

Trek 2009 received so many accolades and earned high critical acclaim. it is usually listed as one of the best prequels ever from watchhmojo to empire magazine to EW.

If people are going to call the dark knight (a very overrated films that only became so overpraise because of the sad and untimely death of an actor) a classic then trek 2009 is more than a classic to me.

star trek 2009 was a great film and will stand the test of time. that is why I call it a classic. It deserves the title.

this is why I was so disappointed with STID,

Most fans take whatever Shatner says far too seriously. Most of it is tongue-in-cheek.

Um... Aside from Oscar nods (for technical issues, by the way -- not directing or best picture), these are pretty meaningless. Also, please show me where ST is listed as the top film of 2009 by AFI -- in fact, show me where it is on the list:

I don't think anyone beyond Batman fans and Heath Ledger disciples calls The Dark Knight a "classic."

Click on "plan fell through" in the story the OP links to and go to the story. The interview is classic Shatner.
-- Calling Abrams a "pig" for taking on both Trek and SW.
-- Saying that as talented as Abrams is, this time he's gone too far (taking on both franchises).
-- Saying he needs to have another sushi with Abrams to "put him straight" on what Abrams is doing, and that it's foolhardy to not use Shatner in both franchises.

One takes Shatner seriously at one's own peril.

Shatner plays up his "arrogant" persona. It's a kind of fake arrogance masking what I think might be genuine humility and a desire to be able to laugh at himself. Whether he succeeds or not is a different question.

I'm waiting and seeing, with regards to him being in the third Abramsverse film. I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Yes what makes you think that.
As in inexperienced director he may just may have less sway over the freight train that is William Shatner but that does not mean he is weak in character.
Berman wasn't able to stop Shatner either and initially Shatner had Meyer scared into going to the bathroom all the time

I think Shatner wants in but (as in his TOS days) he needs at least one more line than Nimoy.

It helps if you can see Shatner in person. I only had that chance once, at my first convention in '74 or '75. He goes from serious to joking with a straight face instantly.

I think Into Darkness will stand the test of time, also. Even here, a hotbed of fanboy criticism, the review thread scores are overwhelmingly positive.

As for Shatner, don't take everything he says to heart. He's often just being silly.

I wonder if Shatner would agree to negotiate other role, provided that is important to the story.

I still don't think I understand the problem? I would be disappointed if someone of Shatner's stature simply was okay with doing a phone-in cameo role of no importance to the narrative of the film.

Nimoy's been Spock (twice). There's no way Shatner would agree to being anything other than Kirk... and I think if he's in it, he'll be prime Kirk. They'll find a way to do it. It's about time the travesty that was Generations gets wiped from the canonical memory. Everybody wins that way.

How bout neither Nimoy or Shat? How bout they stop referencing previous Trek and just boldly go forward? I mean, who's kidding who?

There is no kidding anyone. The studio will sit down and decide whether or not Shatner and Nimoy will help the film sell more tickets.
