Paramount officially announces Star Trek 3 for 2016

And I would like to know what a "fleet detonation" looks like.

"Fleet detonation" is no less plausible than flying the Enterprise underwater.

When I first read that I was honestly expecting that we would see Starbase One blown up, and have ships crashing all over Starfleet as a result. Including the one being featured in the trailers at the time. Amazing how wayyyy off certain assumptions can be from limited media.

Me too. I was thinking of well... Exploding Starships!

The original idea was for Khan to use the uber-prefix code to activate the self-destruct sequence on all nearby Starfleet vessels. But then, the writers decided that obviously ripping off The Wrath of Khan would be a slap in the face to fans who expected something new. :techman:

Sounds good to me :)

Would it be possible to put the phrase "a slap in the face to fans" permanently out to pasture? Just wondering.

Shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure "punch to the face" or "kick to the 'nads" or some such thing will take its place. ;)

They'll still blame JJ. He is producing after all. His paw prints are still going to be all over ST3.

Of course, then there's Brannon Braga, who still gets blamed for Insurrection and Nemesis even though he had nothing to do with either movie.
