What are your hopes for the new Star Wars EU/continuity?

There's some OK OT-era books by Del Rey, the later Zahn stuff kind of deals a lot with that era, but a lot of it is focused on his creations-Thrawn & Mara Jade mainly.

Too bad Stackpole (Who wrote most of the Rogue Squadron novels) kind of swore off the EU after the third Dark Tide was cancelled or something like that.

I wonder if Ostrander-who did some excellent work with Republic & Legacy-would do work for Marvel's Star Wars line, unless he's already working on something.

That's too bad, I really loved the 2003 series.

But I do think you have to look at it as an "interpretation" of Star Wars.

The Jedi in it are invincible super humans. Mace Windu takes out thousands of droids single-handedly.

And Grevious grabbing Palpatine is portrayed slightly differently than in "Labyrinth of Evil".

So it's basically an exaggerated telling of what really happened.

Anakin's motivation makes more sense in the ROTS novel.

Anakin's motivation makes sufficient sense in the film: save Padme. In the novelization Stover has a habit of over-splaining things, such as when he gives no less than three distinct reasons for Obi-Wan leaving Anakin smoldering on the lava bank.

Yeah, that's pretty much the reason - it's very exaggerated. Also, I believe it's incompatible with the newer The Clone Wars

I agree. As much as I loved Tartakovsky's Clone Wars microseries, it did run just a wee bit incompatible with the recent CG Clone Wars series.

It had a really cool story though, and I do enjoy watching it time and again. (I also put it on auto-repeat on my HDTV when I go to sleep....good background noise. :) )

Basically everything other than TCW and the movies was decanonized, and Clone Wars is in that category along with everything else. Prior to the decanonization of the EU, Clone Wars was considered canon despite its exaggerated nature.

I'm well aware of the new canon status...but Clone Wars was already supplanted by The Clone Wars.

Did the Clone Wars CG ever explain how Ventress first met Anakin/Obi-Wan? Before the EU canon being ditched it was assumed they met in the Clone Wars 2003 or in the comics that dealt with the Clone Wars.

Some version of Clone Wars 2003 still happened... Anakin is scared by Ventress in that and he carries that scar through Clone Wars 2008 and ROTS. Grevious is introduced in 03.

Anakin got the scar in the comic books, not CW 2003.

The Tarkin novel is almost out, and it finally gives a certain character a canon first name:

Palpatine's first name is Sheev

Apart from that not too much is known, although I think Rebels's new canon made some changes by having Tarkin become the Outer Rim governor, instead of just some other sector.

Grand Moff Tarkin was in charge of the Outer Rim Oversector if I recall the old ideas. He was governor of a specific sector as a home, but I don't recall its name. It may have just been the capital of the region or where he lived when not busy with Imperial state matters or the Death Star Project.

^Yeah, Tarkin was Grand Moff of Oversector Outer, whuch was basically the entire Outer Rim.
