MYTHBUSTERS 10th Anniversary Season

It might have been new for the US but it was first shown in Australia October 2012.

Need proof?

Here you go.

Yeah, I think in the opening scenes we've seen Adam in the pilot's get-up for a little while now so this segment was filmed quite sometime ago even if the episode was recently cut together.

I don't know how they're putting together or airing the episodes but, I doubt Kari, Grant and Tori have been axed for nearly 2-years now and we're just now finding out about it. Not in this universe.

So something "new" somewhere happened this past "season" for us. It's just a shame we didn't get a final "big myth" episode with both teams.

Kind of weird that the Build Team do not feature in their farewell though, don't you think?

I don't know how it works in the entertainment business, but in the corporate world you usually get ambushed by an HR drone or a manager, then are given five minutes to pack your personal belongings while they watch you, before getting marched out to the parking lot like some kind of criminal.

Might have been a decision that came around after the production for the most reason season had wrapped.

This just makes me wounder how they really put these episodes together and film them. If this episode is really two years old, there must be so many episodes in filming at one time that it takes ghant charts miles long to plan them all.

It would also mean that they have been released by contact for a very long time now.

Maybe they were put on non-disclosure agreements but 2 years would also be a long time to keep quite on the fact that they'd been let go.

Plus they would have to move onto othe things - they've gotta eat.

and what would really be the benefit to keep quiet on their departure for so long.

Maybe this particular episode was just shown much later in the US release order. Have there been a bunch of episodes released in Australia that we haven't seen yet? I think if there had been, then the news of the trio's departure would've been known for quite a while.

Well, that's what's sort of odd. If this episode aired/was filmed a couple years ago then does that mean Kari, Grant, Tori have been let go for that period of time and we're just now finding out about it? I can see them being put on a gag-order by Discovery but I'd think that in the intervening time something would have leaked out by not seeing the Jr. Mythbusters out doing things, or the closing of M7, whatever.

Maybe the US has gotten some episodes that were filmed after this one that Australia hasn't seen yet?

Because I find it really hard to believe Kari, Grant and Tori were dropped a couple years ago and it was never leaked or no one found it odd that they weren't out busting myths, seen around M7 or so many other things you'd think would send out clues that something was going on. And there's obviously not too more years worth of episodes with KGT in it since we got the announcement of their departure.

It's also pretty odd to me it took 2 years for this episode to reach the US given that, you know, it's an American show, filmed in America, staring American personalities.

It's entirely possible they were just now let go, and that announcement was recorded recently, to be tacked on to whatever episode ended up being the season closer.

I very much doubt that the epsidoe would have been shown so far Australia so far in front of the U.S.

It's quite possible that poster making the claim is factually incorrect or has made a mistake.

^Yes, exactly. The two myth segments packaged together in a given episode aren't necessarily conducted at the same time, and a single episode can contain footage shot over the course of weeks or months. Recall that there have been a number of episodes where Kari has had a different hair length or style in the blueprint segments than she did in the testing segments, or was at a different stage of pregnancy. Ditto with that time she broke her leg -- she was in a cast for some parts of an episode but not others. And when Scottie left, there were one or two myths in later episodes where she was still present in the early portions of the experiment.

Indeed, we've already seen in the above clip that the Australian version of this episode did not have the farewell at the end. We know for a fact that it was tacked onto this episode by Discovery.

No, he's quite right. There were three episodes aired in Australia about two years before the US airing, this one, the traffic myths one and I forget the third. Scuttlebutt on the /r/smyths subreddit was that there were rights issues of some kind that delayed the US airings. At any rate, rips from the Australian broadcasts have been available online for a couple of years now – I watched the traffic myths episode back in 2012.

Keep in mind Mythbusters is financed by an Australian company, so it generally airs first overseas. It's just usually only by three to six months.

But if they were just now let-go and the airplane boarding myth was tested two years ago doesn't this mean there's two more years worth of myths/episodes with the Jr. Mythbusters in it?

Nope, all the shows that here recorded after have already aired. These 2 just got delayed because they lifted the myth ideas from another show that was pitched to Discovery and that caused legal issues. It was now or never for these episodes since they included the Jr. mythbusters.

I kind of figured it was something like that, that some episodes were aired way out of sequence. It's just very, very odd it took so long for us to get the airplane boarding myth. I think I remember seeing it in the opening titles a couple "seasons" ago.

Man, it's still going to be odd to watch this show without Kari, Grant and Tori. Especially Kari. :(

It's worth noting too, that in the "farewell" tag, they clearly tried to match the footage as closely as possible to the original sequence. (Look at them side by side. The differences are obvious, but so is the attempt to match.) So this is not a random tag scene they filmed to put wherever they wanted to...they filmed it knowing it would be part of the airplane myth sequence.

^Which just means they knew it would be aired as the season finale. And that suggests the decision to let the trio go came rather recently.

Does it? I'd say it only means that the updated outro was probably filmed recently. The trio not being in their own farewell still makes me think they were dropped a while ago, before the refilmed outro was made.
