A Little Something: Enterprise G (with input from Gabe Koerner)

I think it looks better with a thinner saucer, honestly... it just makes it feel bigger somehow.

I'm hoping to finish my other model next week, when I have some time off, so maybe I can start playing with this one a little.

I think you're right.

I put it through the ol' "adjust size height and/or width" thingie to see, and I think that somewhere between the middle and top image is where we'd need to be.

Great work!

If I had to choose I would go for the saucer of the middle design with the hull of the bottom design.

That mobile starbase saucer pretty much is the planet of the titans saucer as I envision it.

I love the flatness, yet the layered look. It is your creation, but try rounding the edges off just a bit.

I wholeheartedly agree. The 1st one looks sleeker and faster, and more refined in comparison the others.

Yep, the top one is it. :)

Agreed.

The one you had on post 28 with the sensor even farther back is also lovely.

Thanks!

I'm stepping back from that ship because I don't want to hog all the creative opportunities. MadMan1701 is entitled to have some room to be creative too!

Here's what I'm working on now. It's the saucer for the massive "mobile star base" ideas I'm exploring. I have no idea yet what the star drive section would look like or how it would attach to the saucer.

I do rather like the idea someone suggested, that the star drive section delivers the saucer for an extended tour of duty in some star system, and the star drive section then wanders off for other tasks.

Maybe even each star drive isn'd dedicated to any particular saucer - it isn't one ship that can split in two, its two ships that combine for the trip.

I think that the middle niche/trench/whatever in the saucer would look better if it angle outwards liked the top one.

I'm thinking that, since the top one also seems to make this ship look bigger, I could use the bottom one for a "sister ship" that is of the same family, but considerably smaller.

This is NOT what I have in mind for my mobile star base... it came about as an accident while I was a'doodlin' on the Wacom... and I dig it. Gonna have to make it into something.

If you're re-imagining or otherwise envisioning something never-before-seen in the post-TNG-era primeverse then perhaps it is worth considering what such a mega-saucer vessel would look like without distinct nacelles (or with the nacelles built-into the saucer, like tail fins).

It's also worth considering what this mega-saucer's capabilities would be like as its own, autonomous starship. The saucer seems layered; does this suggest the layers can separate to form lesser saucer-ettes?

That would be nice. It might be nice to have a warp ringship fly in front and behind it, so the three-ship design becomes one big nacelle.

This is my final update.

(OK, at least for now.)

I think she looks good in black, yes? No?

I obviously went for a lot of Probert-esque lighting cues from ST:TMP. They REALLY make her what she is.

She looks great.

But I can't help but notice that she appears to only have one dorsal phaser array. I'm thinking: "isn't that a very light armament for what is supposed to be a flagship, even if we're only talking about the dorsal weaponry?"
