Blurb:

Business is down at Quark’s Public House, Café, Gaming Emporium, Holosuite Arcade, and Ferengi Embassy to Bajor. Way down. Lower level of hell down. With the release date (September 1st) only a week away and the cover finally being released via startrek.com I figured why not start the review thread.

Definitely looking forward to this one. I always enjoyed the Ferengi heavy episodes and hope this eBook will be the same kind of fun.

It'll be a while before I get to this one since I haven't read The Fall yet, but I am looking forward to this one when I get to it.
I'm very curious to see Paul M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann handle a fictional story.
 
This is the first publication actually branded as Deep Space Nine since 2009.
 
Can't wait for this. Although I've thoroughly enjoyed the DS9-focused novels under the Typhon Pact and The Fall banners and I know that a Trek novel's branding alone isn't what makes the story, I must say that I still missed seeing this DS9 logo on a cover.
 
I'm absolutely looking forward to this ebook. DS9 is my favourite show and there have been far too few DS9 novels in the last years, IMO.

Pedantic correction: first prose publication; IDW's Fool's Gold miniseries came out 2009-10.

It sure is weird (and nice!) to see the logo again, especially the relaunch one.

Agreed on it being nice. I expected them to use the generic serif font used on the TNG relaunch/Typhon Pact books that I hate, so I'm glad to see a good logo return. I was going to wait for reviews, but they deserve to be rewarded for that. ;)
 
Great cover! I got goose-bumps seeing the DS9 logo again! I pray this is the start of more DS9 focus in the novels again. I'm not sure Trek books as we know them would exist without the DS9r paving the way.

Really? DS9 has had a massive presence and focus in the 24th century storylines for the last few years. It had a big part to play in the Typhon Pact storyline, as well as in The Fall. DS9 and it's characters were featured prominently in:
- TP: Zero Sum Game
- TP: Rough Beasts of Empire
- TP: Plagues of Night
- TP: Raise The Dawn
- The Fall: Revelation & Dust
- The Fall: Ceremony of Losses

DS9 characters and storylines were also featured in:
- Destiny (Ezri & Bowers)
- TP:Paths of Disharmony (Shar and the Andorian fertility crsis)
- TP: Brinkmanship (Garak)
- The Fall: Crimson Shadow (Garak)

I'd say that the focus on DS9 has been pretty great. I know none of these books were branded with the DS9 logo, but they have definitely kept the DS9 focused storylines going. All we're really missing at this point is the Ascendants story...
 
^ There may have been characters from DS9, but on a whole there has not been the focus that use to be there, as seen in the DS9r. I mean this is the first book with the DS9 brand since 2009, so I think my point stands.
 
^Totally disagree...but that's just me. From what i've read of the DS9R, those books were very character focused. I'm not sure what else really matters. The station itself? The characters are what we are there for. Many of those books focused on the characters, just as the TP books and Fall books have. Sisko has had some really great character building in his TP trilogy, and Julian has had a great arc in Zero Sum Game and Ceremony of Losses (to be continued in a month or two). Ezri has really come a far way, just as the DS9R seemed to be leading her along a new path, and so has Shar. Even Ro has some great moments (the one with Picard comes to mind).But, everyone to their own I guess :shrug:

I don't know how you can disagree with the assertion that the DS9 brand has gone unused since 2009. It's not a matter of opinion; there have been no novels with "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" on the cover since then!

Yes, the setting and characters have been kept alive, as part of the crossovers. But there hasn't been a "pure" DS9 title in some time.

This seems to be the year of the branding revivals: first The Lost Era, now DS9. (And arguably Section 31, though Disavowed is combining the old branding with the "new and improved TNG" branding used in TNG/Typhon Pact/The Fall.)
 
Look, where I am coming from is that I wish DS9's characters were not all over the place. TNG and VOY still have a strong presence with many of the same characters together. That is what I miss. Also, TNG and VOY have had at least one book under their respected banners each year. Maybe it's not possible anymore, but I's love to see more DS9 bannered books, with a lot of the cast back in action under that banner. It's just my opinion.

I know the brand has not been used since 2009. It said so in my post before the one you are quoting. All i disagreed with was the assertion that the DS9 focus was not there. I believe that there HAS been focus on the DS9 crew (no matter how broken up they were), for the reasons I listed. Sorry if you misunderstood. I'll try to be clearer in future posts.

I would say that Revelation & Dust, as well as the Plagues/Raise duology were pretty "pure" DS9 stories, even though they were part of an overarching story. The duology featured some of the biggest upheavels that the station has ever faced, while R&D gave us the real beginning of the new DS9. People were complaining that it felt alot like a new pilot for DS9, and not very much like a book that was the first part of a 5-part storyline across the 24th century.

Oh..and Enterpriserules...everyone is entitled to their opinion. We just differ on this. It's all good dude. IDIC and all that :)
 
^ No worries! I was not taking it personally. I think we agree that we love DS9 and stories that revolve around it's characters are something we love and want to continue to see :)
