AMC's Halt and Catch Fire

I'm very happy it got a second season, I liked the show from the beginning. I really do hope they show Joes quest or what ever he's doing.

I had no idea this show was on the fence it's soooooo good.
We have to start a goddamn show-watching campaign next year or something to keep it going. Gawd I hate the ratings system determining what's canceled and what isn't. There's at least 3-5 years in this masterpiece.

It's an odd show in that I don't like any of the characters as people, but it's compelling to watch.

I hadn't thought about it, but that's exactly how I feel.

The only character I actually *like* is the wife, Donna. The others aren't all that likable but they are indeed fascinating.

I grew to dislike Gordon more and more as the series went on. Bosworth started out as a real a-hole, but became likeable, especially after he became sort of a father-figure to Cameron.

Agreed about Donna, she was my favorite character after Joe.

^She's extremely interesting, but I certainly wouldn't call her character "likable." She's childish and mean-spirited.

I think Joe is extremely interesting, but he's also a self-serving asshole with a bucket-load of psychological problems.

Gordon, while a genius, is a passive-aggressive follower, with the social skills of a 12 year old. Donna is the far more capable of the couple.

But I find all of these people just fascinating--how they grow, change, fail, succeed, define themselves, etc. I can't wait to see what happens next!

After thirty years in the tech industry, I've worked with or for every one of these people at one time or another, even to this day. The characters are very well developed and believable, and they certainly got the look and feel of a Cardiff Electric type company right.

I'm more fanatical about the era and the context of the story (early 80s, early days of home computing on 5.25 floppies etc) and the music than the overall cast.

Some have stated that they don't feel an emotional connection with the main players. I think to some extent I've felt that way, too. Maybe less so with Cameron and Joe but certainly it's Gordon that I care the least for, he seems like kind of a super crazy prick sometimes.

But the look and feel of everything is very exciting... the trade show episode especially was incredible (S01E08?) and I can't wait to see what 1984 brings to the story... I'm guessing Joe torching the truck full of Giants wasn't a huge setback and they could produce more or be insured or whatever.

It was only one panel van full. Maybe 60 to 100 units out of their (hopefully projected) 100,000 units in sales? Not a big deal.

Season 2 premiere on Sunday, May 31st.

They had better hit it out of the park this season. I'm surprised that the series wasn't cancelled after season 1, the ratings were so awful.

Having said that, I do love this show. It is the closest to portraying my real-life job out of anything that is on TV right now, though I'm currently only a PCB CAD designer near the end of my career, and not doing anything nearly as exciting or dramatic as working for a startup.

I think what really grabs me about this show is the character development. It seems rare these days that a TV program will have such deeply complex, real characters. They are both likeable and unlikeable, often simultaneously. I find it fascinating just to watch them.

Hubby-the-computer-guy started watching for the tech references, and perhaps a little nostalgia, but even he said the best part was just watching the characters reveal more and more about themselves.

I watched a little of this but part of why I haven't watched more is I don't want it to be canceled and then I'm stuck watching an unfinished show.

I am part of the problem.

I'm looking forward to season 2. I like this show a lot.

Lee Pace is mesmerizing in pretty much everything he does.

Was not impressed by Lee in Guardians of the Galaxy, but then he was probably going the full Flash Gordon cardboard on purpose.

I wonder if Pace is going to be in the upcoming Inhumans Movie?

Crystal sequentially marries Quicksilver and then Ronan.

HA!

No one has signed up for Crystal in the new Inhumans movie, but in 1994, super model Kathy Ireland voiced an animated rendition of the Inhuman Princess. It's unlikely she considers herself the seminal Crystal, like how Nathan Fillion leaps at every imginable opportuinity to be a better Green Lantern than his former Two Guys a Girl and Pizza Shop costar Ryan Reynolds, so she'll probably let some 20 year old kid get the part.

For how great GotG is, the writing and the direction really let Lee Pace down. Everyone else was having fun except him, character wise that is. I know the character is barely two dimensional but couldn't you give him something to ground him. Maybe daddy issues or something, anything? The only saving grace is I did believe that he imbued Ronan with a strength that he could go toe to toe with Drax and not have it be laughable.

I'm really looking forward to what is install for Joe's character this season and what Lee Pace does with him.
