Zoë Saldana May Be The New Uhura

Stardate

Fleet Captain

TrekMovie.com has another Star Trek casting scoop (remember we were first with Quinto as Spock). Sources close to the production tell TrekMovie.com that 29 year old actress and model Zoë Saldana has been offered the part of Uhura - the USS Enterprise’s communications officer originally played by Nichelle Nichols.

and the icing on the cake, she apparently diggz white boys too

okey silly joke :D

But she'd better be able to say "Hailing frequencies open, Captain." :D

Singing and harp playing are a bonus.

I like her a lot. I wanted her back (playing Anamaria) for the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and was disappointed that she wasn't in them.

I'd love to see her as Uhura.

Don't know her, but she looks close enough. We'll have to wait and see, provided this is true.

I thought it was interesting that the story directly beneath the Saldana story on trekmovie.com was about Anton Yelchin. He seemed to be confirming the fact he was definitely playing Chekov. Maybe I missed something, but wasn't that still an unconfirmed rumor??

It seems that Abrams has so far tapped all "buzzworthy" talent for this film...

...Zachary Quinto, one of the most popular characters on one of the most popular current TV shows. 'Heroes'. Anton Yelchin, whose film 'Charlie Bartlett' has gotten quite a few good early reviews, and now Zoe Saldana, who is in one of next years most awaited projects -- James Cameron's 'Avatar' (not related to the animated TV show).

I wonder who the next will be to join the cast, and I wonder to which "buzzworthy" project that star is presently attached. Maybe it will be someone from Abrams' 'Cloverfield/1-18-08' project...possibly Mike Vogel: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1036181/

EDIT: Fixed Spelling of Yelchin's Movie from 'Charlie Batch' to the correct 'Charlie Bartlett"...what can I say -- I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan ;)

Yeekers, maybe if she put on about 20 pounds...Uhura should not be a stick!

As long as she's a semi-decent actress, she should do okay, it's not like Uhura is such a well-defined role anyway. But eat a burger or something.

now Zoe Saldana, who is in one of next years most awaited projects -- James Cameron's 'Avatar'

Ah HAH! Suddenly this rumor is seeming a lot more likely. Avatar's already underway so I'd imagine it will hit in time to give Trek XI's new Uhura a little PR boost and help the movie overall.

Maybe it will be someone from Abrams' 'Cloverfield/1-18-08' project...possibly Mike Vogel:

Pretty good. I still say Bailey looks more the part. But not by a huge margin. Vogel has a bit of generic-square-jawed-hero-ness around him. I'd like Kirk to be more unique.

Yeah, she's hot.

In the clip of The Terminal on Trekmovie, she's very cute.

That'll do for me.

I've no opinion of her either way as I never heard of her before now. This is not a bad thing. I've been saying all along that they should cast unknowns in the roles (Quinto as Spock is a good casting choice, but we're already hearing some grumbling from people who think of him more as Sylar). I personally would have preferred Rosario Dawson, and in recent weeks Freema Agyeman of Doctor Who also started to go up my list of preferred choices (and if Michelle Ryan can lose her posh Brit accent for Bionic Woman, Freema can drop her's for Uhura). But if this rumor turns out to be true, I don't see a problem with Zoe Saldana as Uhura.

Cheers!

Alex

very good choice, apparently. She seems to convey charm and warmth in the video clip. But can she sing?

looking good...
