There is no "D" sound in the letter "Z" in the English I learned. Who is using the second pronunciation?

Most of the world outside the US uses the zed over the zee pronunciation. I am Canadian like Rodney so I use the zed version

Zed. That's what the Queen's English says and that is what is correct.

Doesn't quite grate as much as Beckett's flag but still.

i actually got into this battle with a friend in NZ over this on X-box Live, but she has banning powers so i kept it civil, elsewise I would have won

There has yet to be an occasion where I've actually had to speak "ZPM" out loud.

When I read it though, I read it as "ZEE-P-M," which, as far as I've known my whole life is correct, and while obviously not the ONLY way to say it, is also wholly acceptable.

Zed-P-M, as a speaker of the Queen's English.
I also say Jay-Zed, but that's mostly to annoy people. OK, entirely.

I've done that on occasion.
I tend to say Zed P M, but there are times when I say Zee, just from hearing it so much, like with T N Zee, where as if I didn't see it in conjunction with TN I would just say zed.

Zed. Not that I ever really say ZPM out loud.

The Ancients had a different name for them as evidenced in the episode Weir is stuck in the past with the creator of the Time Jumper. We just never hear what the Ancients actually call them.

So ZPM is just our arbitrary name for them, theres no correct term to use so its up to the individual how they pronounce the Z.

True, I have to admit to calling it "T N Zee", it's become a bad habit. Next time I have tea with the queen, she'll be appalled.
