I just saw, what apparently is a cult film..

is it me or is there a certain time frame and criteria for what is considered cult material..

singing, annoyingly-overly emotional acting, and cheesy social commentary themes.. and outrageous and nonsensical nudity..

Little Shop of horrors,
Zardoz,
Rocky Horror
Barbarella

Just some crazy 60's to 80's pot smoking, heroine, and LSD fantasy movies of crazed weirdness..

Okay so the movie was way out of the norm.. Star Trek did much better with it's super psychic society renderings back in the 60's and they were on a shoe string budget..

still...

all things considered, I did like the floating giant stone head..

But the whole wizard of Oz connection "Zard-OZ" just seemed so contrived and silly...not a Sean Connery Movie I would recommend..

I saw it at the drive-in back when it first came out.

It stunk back then too (and that's when Connery was still a big star coming off of the Bond films.)

Still not as bad as the adaptation of Asimov's "Nightfall" tho...

The gun is good. The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life, and poisons the earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the gun shoots death, and purifies the earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth and kill!
:wtf:

Yeah, it still rates pretty high up my "Worst. Movies. Ever." list.

I've had this on my Netflix queue for months since my friend told me how awful it was, and I haven't gotten around to it yet. But it sounds like I should hurry up and watch it!

I'm afraid to watch this movie.
Why should anyone be afraid of a hairy Scotsman wearing nothing but bandoliers, thigh-high boots and a red diaper?

I like having a gun and a penis.

Zardoz contains a nucleus of a story that is worth exploring -- what are the consequences of virtual immortality. Besides the dodgy wardrobe choices, it contains unforgettable lines such as "Is God in show business too?" Yes, you probably need to be stoned to be able to watch it all the way through.

I think you people are nuts.

Zardoz is definitely a worthwhile watch. It's one edit and some reshoots away from being great. Of course, it's about 35 years too late for any reshoots, unfortunately - but it's still worthwhile.

I find it infinitely amusing that an entire society and religion and new breed of men were brought into existence as part of a suicide plot by a handful of unwilling immortals with terminal ennui.

There's some connective tissue missing in the transition between Act II and Act III, true. But it was the 70's. Everybody working on the film was probably as high as a kite the whole time.
