Your War Against Ants?

I also have nothing against ants, but than... we also have no fire-ants here and I never lived in an ant-invested house, however did you ever had to fight fleas????? THAT is hell.
About three years ago my dog had a a flea...or more, which I did not know to that time.
Three weeks later (my dog was with my parents since two and a half weeks, we knew by then she had a flea and she got someting against it) I woke up to find one flea hoping over my bed. I jumped as high as the ceiling. and thought "NOOO! She left a flea here!" Then I calmed down again and thought...oh well...one flea, I just catch it...so I catched it into a glass and thought about what to do with it. While thinking about it, I saw another one (they are small, yes, but still quite visibel...at least adult fleas..baby fleas are SO small, that they are nearly unvisibel...after that experience I am an expert.. ;) ). Anyway, I caught the second one also...now I was distressed, cause I thought, when there are two of them...oh my God. So, even I try never to kill animals, I killed them and felt really sorry for them....until I walked into my living room...barefoot... and a black, very hungry flea-cloud jumped from the car pit onto my feet....and when I say it must have been hundreds or thousends of them its not exxagerated. Actually dog fleas do not jump on humans...when theres a dog around... but when there isn´t and they have nothing else to eat... they seem to enjoy human blood as well!
This time I shrieked loudly and ran into the shower...and stayed in there, cause I was too scared to walk on the carpits in my apartement again.
Well, but of course I had to come out again at one point in time....fought my way outside, ran to a shop bought lots of chimicals and first put flea-bombs (thats what they are called) in each room...after a few hours, when I could go inside again I sprayed everything and everywhere with some more chemicals and then I cleaned everything thourougly.... after 2 weeks I did it all over again. It was an absolutly disgusting experience and a lot of time-consuming work.

My parents' dog (well, used to be my dog) got fleas in the house right before they left on vacation. Sam went in the kennel (and was flea-dipped) and Dad set off flea-bombs before they left. Hubby and I checked the house while they were gone and told Dad that the fleas were still there.

We told them and Dad said, "Well, we're just gonna have to bomb it again."

He said this while we were picking them up. At the airport. Ooh...."Dad, shut-up! Wrong thing to say!"

Fortunately, airport security seems to be on the ball as far as iPads go. I never even had to take mine out of the bag when I went through last month. I didn't even tell them I had one. This may depend on the specific airport, though, whether or not their TSA agents know about iPads yet. Although most probably do.

iPads cause ants?

Got a used matress from the side of a matress store once. It was in fine shape, not dirty, didn't have any marking suggested it had bed bugs, and still had bouncy, bouncy life in it. Appearently that's not all it had. It must have had something that attracted ants, 'cause I woke up in the middle of the night with red ants on the bed, and bites on my lefts, and testicles. SOB.

Methinks he meant to post in the Flying thread.

We get ants in our house every summer, especially in the kitchen by the dog bowl. Fortunately they're only little black ants; so there is no flying or biting, but there's a whole lot of them.
The interesting thing about ants is that if you use a vaccum cleaner and suck them all up except one, that one ant will become very confused and run around in circles for a while quite a while before finding safety. If you leave several, then they'll all pretty much run immediately for safety.

All you guys should be grateful that you, unlike Tasmanians, don't live with the world's deadliest ant

Whenever I find a nest of these little buggers in my yard I pour petrol down it, wait for a while for the petrol to drain right down to the queen and then set it on fire.

Luckily, though these ants live in our backyards they rarely come into houses.

Every summer I get infestations of little piss ants.

Well we seem to have stopped the second wave...they'll be back though. Baby powder, who'd have thunk it? If they come back we're calling an exterminator. There were dozens of carpenter ants that had burrowed out of the corner of the door to the kitchen. Yuck.
